Can't remember if this has been discussed before... When I was a kid my dad had one of those furniture piece stereos with a turntable, eight track, cassette player and speakers built in. The turntable had one of those spindles that you could put several albums on so that when one side was over the next album would drop down and play. When I got the Out of the Blue double LP I used the spindle thing so that Side One would play first and when that was over Side Three (Concerto) would play next. I never listened to the album in the proper sequence (1,2,3,4) until I repurchased on CD. Many times I only made it through Side 1 and 3. As a result I always thought those parts of the album were better than 2 and 4. Any similar or differing opinions? Just my thought but I would not miss Starlight, Birmingham Blues or The Whale from the running order...

I have never changed the running order of OOTB. I think once or twice I have made playlists (or back in the day, cassettes) with "Best of Out of The Blue". Taking it down to single album format. But nowadays I think that's madness, the album is so strong, you have to hear the whole of it.

The only change I would make would to maybe put the concerto last Not a bad idea, only thing is there would be no “Please turn me over”

I've always begun with the Sweet is the Night side, then the Night in the City side, then he Turn to Stone one, then ended with Standin' in the Rain etc. Not sure why, but it would sound wrong any other way.

Since I don't have a turntable at the moment, I often play the cd 'random play' no two times are the same, problem solved!
