The USA "Box Of Their Best" set contains 3 complete albums, A New World Record, Out Of The Blue, and Discovery on Jet Records.
The first issue got four coloured LP inner sleeves and comes with free Jeff Lynne 1 sided promo single, "Doing That Crazy Thing."
The later issues came with white inner sleeves and no single (there was often a white sticker attached on the sleeve hiding the single announcement)
Several issues come without the single, with one, two, or three white inners and sometimes without the white sticker but was still sealed. It seems that CBS USA wanted to give away their stock of inner sleeves ! Both ' A Box Of Their Best' and 'Four Light Years' were issued in August 1980, it just seems odd that Jet would waste money doing this?

That would tie in with the small picture of Jeff on the back wearing his sleeveless US tee shirt and short hair. I can’t see a print year on the box I figured it to be 1981 going by this picture.

Oh this takes me back!
I went on a school trip to the Houses Of Parliament in early 1981 and 'did a bunk' so that I could go to the Virgin Megastore in Oxford Street. No-one seemed to mind in those days, the teachers just asked us all to be back at the station at a certain time! Anyway, I was thrilled to see this box set on sale and, even though I already owned everything in it bar the white label single, I had to have a copy. I have to admit though that apart from the box artwork, it doesn't offer you too much that you're not already familiar with.
Although I'm certain of the year that I bought it, I've just had a quick look at it and it does indeed say 1980 on the back.

You have excellent eye sight sooner or later, all these years and I never saw the black line of writing right across the bottom. Good spot. These eyes are getting old......
