The initial sessions in Nassau began in September '84 and lasted six weeks, with mixing finished by early '85 - BOP was originally scheduled for release around that time, but ended up being delayed quite significantly (possibly as a result of Jeff's father dying later in the year). There are pictures of a band rehearsal from February '85, so my guess is that everyone was ready to play live, and that the group's absence from Live Aid was the result of ELO either not being invited or the organisers preferring more relevant acts. At this point, weren't fans and journalists alike in writing ELO off as a spent force, even though Jeff was still under contract to deliver one final album? Am I wrong that BOP was being remixed over and over again during 1985 because either JL or the record company were not satisfied? Hence the (at least) two versions of "Heaven Only Knows", "Sorrow About To Fall" and "Secret Lives". Maybe there are several versions of all the other tracks, too?

This was ELO line up for BOP on the Wogan show presented by Kenneth Williams. Sadly as you say ShardEnder not much success with the singles from the album.

They could have replaced Led Zep in Philadelphia, whose performance was so embarrassingly shambolic they refused to allow it to be included on the eventual DVD release of the show!

The Led Zep reunion was really bad. They tried to put the blame on Phil Collins afterwards but all he had agreed on was to play with his friend Robert Plant, but out of a sudden he found himself in the middle of a fully fledged Led Zep reunion with a rather hateful Jimmy Page. And Robert Plant had lost his voice completely just before the gig. (Read the autobiography of Phil Collins, a very interesting read! I would love to read an autobiography in this manner written by Jeff Lynne, with warts `n all, but this will of course never happen.) But we digress ...

Now that is one book I would love to read, but as you say it will never happen.
