OK!!!!! I'm sooo sorry I'm late!! I miss you all so terribly at the moment but I'm a busy boy! Anyway! I adore this album and I feel it encapsulates the mid 70's perfectly. A beautifully crafted album that is produced so well. I was caught up between this and Alan Parsons project. Eye in the sky from '83. But this is such a feel good I couldn't help myself! Please enjoy.
When Miles eventually signed to Decca, they introduced him to producer Alan Parsons in the summer of 1975 (Miles would later sing on several tracks on several albums of his the Alan Parsons Project). The first song they recorded was the song "Highfly" and it was released as a single eventually reaching 17 in the UK and #68 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
Because of the success of the single, plans were made to record a full album and recording of the album took place in November–December 1975 at Abbey Road Studios. The song "Music" was released, became an instant hit (reaching number 3 in the UK, number 88 in the United States) and is one of his most memorable songs.[1] The album reached the lower level of the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart, peaking at #171.
The album title was based on the album cover on which he posed with a big gun on his shoulders reminding very much of James Dean who is considered a rebel.[1]
"Music" was according to Miles written in half an hour and was originally meant to be a basis for other songs, but because of its distinctive character, it was developed as a complete song.[1]
All tracks written by Bob Marshall and John Miles; except where noted
"Music" (Miles) 5:58
"Everybody Wants Some More" 3:38
"High Fly" 3:53
"You Have it All" 7:01
"Rebel" 3:19
"When You Lose Someone So Young" 4:35
"Lady of My Life" (Miles) 4:08
"Pull the Damn Thing Down" 7:18
"Music (reprise)" (Miles) 2:11
John Miles: lead vocals, keyboards, guitar, synthesizer
Bob Marshall: bass
Barry Black: drums, percussion
Andrew Powell: orchestral arrangements
Cracking lil album!!! Fantastic end as well folks! Ah '76 E.L.O. A new world record, John Miles Rebel, Thin Lizzy Fighting....Back when musicians were musicians...

If you like Mmusic check the fade out into the reprise out of when you loose someone so young. ...its savage. I figure he was heavily influenced by the Beatles for that manoeuvre! !!

I’ve heard the name John Miles, but wasn’t all that familiar with his work.
Music – The opening puts me in mind of The Carpenters, for some reason. Then it goes into an almost prog-like sound, most notably, The Alan Parsons Project. Interesting song, for sure. Lots of fun changes.
Everybody Wants Some More – The bridge is definitely Beatles influenced. Another good song. Honestly, could be a McCartney solo song.
High Fly – Yes’s Long Distance Runaround meets Peter Gabriel era Genesis? Yea, that’s the vibe I’m getting. Good stuff.
You Have it All – Another very proggy song. Very similar to the Doobie Bros. “Long Train Running”, in parts. Like a lot of prog-rock, there tends to be a bit too much noodling, but overall, it’s not bad.
Rebel – Good vocals and hard rock feel to some of the song. Great guitar sound, too. Oh, and the string break! Another strong song.
When You Lose Someone So Young – A tad syrupy, lyrically and musically. To me, it sounds like the closing credits to a bad 70’s movie. Hah.
Lady of My Life – Sort of like “yacht rock”. I like the interweaving vocals, and sexy sax! Will Ferrell should have used this in the first Anchorman film.
Pull the Damn Thing Down – On part of the verses, he kind of sounds like Kelly Groucutt. Again, another extremely proggy one with lots of stylistic changes. If you told me this was a rare Alan Parsons Project or 10cc song, I’d believe you.
Overall, I enjoyed this album. A bit overblown, in parts, but the good songs make up for that.

John Miles? I'm looking forward to this. I know of him from The Alan Parsons Project's Stereotomy which Procol's Gary Brooker also sang on.

You know it never surprises me how similar E.L.O. fans music tastes are at times! I guess we are all just connasuers of great music!

Music - Already a 5 star song for me from ages back. It simply can't be faulted, especially by anyone who loves Jeff's stuff. I'm listening to the album through earphones, this song is even better heard that way. Everybody Wants Some More - Instantly reminds me of something Chicago would have put out in the '80's, then the strings come in and it's Beatles/ELO again. Pleasant ballad, nothing earth shattering though. High Fly - Ooo, I remember this! Perky little pop song but with a lot of thought gone into the production I think. Well above average, especially for when it came out. You Have it All - Great build-up in the intro, I can see this is a long-ish track and it kicks off in proper prog stylee. Like the drum break in the middle. Gave my ears a good work out, I rather like it. Rebel - Reminds me a bit of something Sparks might have done. Nice full sound, great violin. Never really goes anywhere though for me. When You Lose Someone So Young - I'm afraid this does nothing for me, too tinkly and bland. Lady of My Life - Quite liking this, it has an interesting sound quality and chopped about vocals. Not mad about the keyboard but love the sax, I can never resist a good sax break. It goes on a bit too long for me though. Pull the Damn Thing Down - Lots of different moods here, as in Music but maybe not so varied. Nice slab of typical Miles fare to end the album, great outro when it kicks in and builds up into... Music (reprise) Slightly awkward join but hurray for more of this song and a proper bookend. The sound quality is impressive throughout this album, might have been to do with having to hear it through earphones. But I really like the clarity of each part, and the different layers that make it so meaty. If you like classic ELO you can't fail to fall for this too. The lad has a voice on him as well, it can't be denied. Nice one!
