The four note opening guitar sequence on Shangri-la is a slightly speeded-up version of a gentle riff that appears in a much earlier non-ELO song, possibly from the fifties or sixties - an 'easy-listening' type song, with the guitar pattern appearing throughout (but not at the beginning) and then at the very end of it. Can anyone help identify the song or the singer please?

I didn't realise it was on this album, since I don't own a copy.

It's not on Long Wave, it's part of a sampler of unreleased tracks from the sessions.

Thank you very much Dillwyn for this. It's been nagging away in my mind for a while and you have been a great help. 😇

Thank you very much Dillwyn for this. It's been nagging away in my mind for a while and you have been a great help. 😇 There seem to be a lot of these samples from unreleased Long wave tracks being leaked (particularly on Jeff's Facebook page) Perhaps the complete album is one of Jeff's lockdown projects to be released in time for Christmas

It's not on Long Wave, it's part of a sampler of unreleased tracks from the sessions. I thought I didn't recognize it. On the other hand, it could have been on the album, it's really a "lost album" for me. I think I have listened to it maybe five times, at the most.
