Sorry I can’t remember the source on the ‘net but I saw a little blurb that Jeff and Phil Lynnot from Thin Lizzy were tried out for Lead vox in Genesis after Gabriel left. I am not a Genesis scholar but time wise was Gabriel’s departure around Face the Music or ANWR? Has anyone heard of this or is it just bull? Can you imagine Jeff giving up on ELO at that point to front another band? What would have happened to the other ELO guys? What would have happened with Genesis? Does Tony Banks = Richard Tandy?

Finally able to retrace my googling - the claim comes from the book “1 Love Rock n Roll (Except When I Hate It)” which seems to be a rock trivia book. Never read it, the quote came up when I searched for Genesis auditions....Fiction?

If it was true and around the time of FTM and Jeff abandoned ELO, just think no ANWR no OOTB etc... it doesn’t bear thinking about.

Is Genesis like Led Zepp, a group where everyone and their mother has been asked to join? What does it say about the bands that so many great musicians said no? I read that even Roger Taylor was asked to join Genesis by Peter himself.

Just read that Peter left in August '75 and FTM came out in Sept '75.
