I’m sorry I can’t stomach his current band. It’s not ELO and never will be. Bland bland session musician fayre that’s bordering on karaoke. They’re lucky to be playing with Jeff thanks to his fans. That Mike looks like a bank manager who has just learned acoustic guitar. Embarrassing. And a world away from the quirky original prog stylings of ELO. The most authentic thing Jeff has done in years was the wonderful living room session with RT

Sure it isn't the band that we all know and love but at least Jeff's active...

Sadly what you are hoping for will never happen. I never got to see ELO pre 1986 and I really envy anybody that has. But Jeff has said this is the best band he has EVER played with ( he must have forgotten The Travelling Wilburys they weren’t a bad band!!) But I have been to see the current line up several times and have really enjoyed them. I would still love to see the old faces though.

We should remember that the lineup changed a few times during the 'classic'' years - I'm talking about 1970 to 1986. Unless you're having us on mrradio

The most authentic thing Jeff has done in years was the wonderful living room session with RT So much venom for talented musicians whom Jeff appreciates. Award-winning Mike Stevens especially doesn't deserve this. It's true saxophone is Mike's primary instrument, but he handles the guitar just fine. It's generally not cool to attack someone based on how they look, mrradio. Do you prefer the long-haired hippy styles of the 70s?
I think all twelve of the current band would agree they are lucky to be playing with Jeff. What does "thanks to his fans" mean? Do you refer to the overwhelming demand that opened the opportunity for Jeff to go on the road and play before tens of thousands of appreciative fans? I think the fans are lucky that Jeff recruited such talented musicians to play live with him so he can finally get the sound he wants on stage, with today's engineering magic.
Are they the best musicians available? Maybe not.
Are they as good as the Magnificent Seven? At least, if not better.
Are the nostalgia hounds bitter and disappointed that the same guys from forty years ago aren't still playing with Jeff, despite the fact that only two of them would be remotely available for this fantasy reunion? Indubitably.

I have been fortunate enough to see ELO and Jeff Lynne's ELO. See there is a difference, not just the personnel. I'm sure if most of us could be young again by "Time" traveling back to the 70's we would want to see the dream team or the "Magnificent Seven" as our friend referred to them above. I can say however in my opinion the current ensemble is far superior but to be fair they have the luxury of technology and numbers on their side.

I can see both sides of the argument, Of course I'd like Bev, Richard, Mel and Mik to all join up for a last hurrah and up until the embarrassing 'R+R Hall of Fame' episode I actually thought that it was still possible. I think any hope disappeared with what happened there so we have to move on somewhat and I've seen JL's ELO twice now and I was entertained no question. The new band undoubtedly are good,Jeff wouldn't just pick anyone would he? but they do lack charisma and to a certain degree they are faceless whereas The magnificent 7 in the golden period 75-79 WERE charismatic and good in what they did.

Might it be that the new line-up are essentially playing another line-up's music, whereas The Magnificent 7 were playing their own? Even the two recent albums are largely Jeff by himself, so the line-up you see nowadays has no recording pedigree as 'ELO' yet.

Last ELO concert I was at bass player Lee Pomeroy was doing some Hugh style running across the stage which I liked. Thought he had some old type ELO personality. But Richard is missed.....

I wonder if Lee took it upon himself to do those antics? Or maybe Jeff had a word in his ear telling him about a cellist he once knew....
