heard this one on the radio today I love Tift Merritt's voice. Another one of her songs, "Good Hearted Man" probably shows off her voice better. But I like this song better and her voice really pairs well with the violin.
what other vocalists would you nominate in this category?

another favorite - Briana Corrigan she sang with Beautiful South in the early '90s, never to be heard again on this side of the Atlantic what a voice!

LOVE Karen Carpenter, she can't be faulted I can think of loads of female vocalists for this thread, but here's one who might otherwise be overlooked - Maggie Reilly
And I'll be the first to nominate Stevie Nicks, her passionate outro to Rhiannon here is a total classic

Everyone's picked some great singers.
Nice to see Elkie Brooks. I saw her at Sheffield City Hall in 2000 (a show which got a mention in Peter Kay's autobiography!). I think it was my first proper concert.
My favourite voices include Karen Carpenter, Hope Sandoval, and Lorraine Hunt Lieberson -

two modern singers with very different but incredible voices, from australia, Gin Wigmore, slightly gravelly but strong voice absolutely packed with emotion, go seek her out, shes something else. and from england, a young singer who doesnt get much airplay but has a following online, Hannah Grace
