He playfully referred to himself as the architect of rock and roll, and he may very well have been right.

I would rate Little Richard above Chuck Berry, brilliant showman and really ahead of his time in terms of his flamboyance which inspired the likes of Prince in later years. It was pretty brave of him to appear that way in those times. At the other end of the scale Lemmy of Motorhead considered him the ultimate singer and cited him as a big influence. He always looked as if he was thoroughly enjoying himself which was so endearing. RIP Little Richard, a life well lived and an inspiration to many legends who followed him.

It's sad to lose Little Richard even though he's lived much longer than I'd imagined he would. He was probably the only person, or at least the only person still living until now, that almost every big rock star looked up to. Without him we wouldn't have many of the bands and singers we do today. Who do we have now with such a strong influence?

The only one that I can think of off the top of my head is Jerry Lee Lewis...
