ELO were pretty consistent in the charts from 75 to 83 but no solo number ones . When OOTB was released “Turn to stone” was the lead single which stalled at number 18 in the UK charts. I have often wondered if MBS had of been the lead single or even Don’t bring me down for Discovery would either have hit the top spot? Also given that TTS goes down so well at the concerts why did it fair so modestly in the charts?

I just think that it's a song Jeff couldn't be bothered with, and to me doesn't fit the album's feel.More a Discovery track in my opinion... I was at at a wedding reception and the DJ played jungle for some reason, the guests loved it and ended up doing a Congo around the floor and reception. (I take no pride in saying I took part in this) but the guests were asking me who it was and were shocked it was ELO. Got to really like it. but Jeff seems to throw in an out of place song, on some albums. I never thought Easy Money fitted on Zoom.

I've often thought that as well, I'm not a big fan of Shine A Little Love and since Discovery is a disco based album I guess it fits well as the opener...

Sorry but no love here for Jungle,I'd rather hear The Whale than that.... The Whale? Wow, that is a lot! I'd say the penultimate degradation (the ultimate being a comparison with "The Battle of Marston Moor").

we last discussed this in 2016 (where did the time go!)... my order hasn't changed Side 1 1..Turn to Stone 2..Sweet Talking Woman 3..Sweet is the night 4..Believe me now 5..Stepping out Side 2 1..Concerto for a rainy day /Standing in the rain 2..Big Wheels 3..Summer and Lightening 4..Mr Blue Sky in the end I would add "it's over" to "Mister Blue Sky" - I think it would still fit. Then you would have to move the "please turn me over" - ok, it's all fictional anyway

I'm sure there's been a thread on this topic before, but I came across this on YouTube Interesting to see what songs other people would choose, I like that the concerto was kept mostly intact here but personally I could never bear to cut Sweet Is the Night If you had to cut OOTB down to a single album, what would it look like? I'll get back to you with my choices after I've had some time to deliberate... Good thread. I have thought about this many times, because, as much as ELO fans seem to hold OOTB in such high regard, I always thought it contained filler. You can cut 5 tracks, and have a wonderful 12-track single album, imho. Get rid of: Jungle, Believe Me Now, The Whale, Big Wheels and Summer And Lightning. Those are great b-sides.

So anyway, the 12-track album begins with Standing In The Rain and ends with Mr Blue Sky. Perfect, right? I know. You don't have to thank me. I love Jeff, but he totally fucked up the order of OOTB. How can you NOT end with Mr Blue Sky? Sheesh. Plus he front loaded side 1, and it was mostly a mixed bag from there. But I digress.
1. Standing In The Rain. 2. Turn To Stone. 3. Night In The City.
4. On The Border. 5. Sweet Is The Night. 6. Wild West Hero.
7. Sweet Talking Woman. 8. Birmingham Blues. 9. Stepping Out.
10. It's Over. 11. Starlight. 12. Mr Blue Sky.
Questions?

I was going to have It's Over as the last track, maybe as a hidden track so "please turn me over" would still make sense, but I said screw it. The track called "It's Over" would make a great closer in my opinion.

In my case, "please turn me over" means "start the effing album again". GOD it has always driven me crazy that Mr Blue Sky is not the last song.
