Does anyone know the story of why Rick Price wasn't involved in ELO. On the face of it he seemed ideally placed to slot in on bass after the demise of The Move. I always found it a bit curious how he faded from view at the end of The Move, only to reappear in Wizzard and stay there 'til that finished in 1975ish. Was it just a case of he didn't fancy it or wasn't invited. I know he was initially involved in 'Message from the Country', but his bass parts were later overdubbed by Roy. I assume he participated (early doors) in '10538 Overture' as that was originally a 'Move' song. Did he have other commitments and wasn't interested. Thanks in anticipation.

Not sure what happened with ELO but ShardEnder might be able to help. I know he recorded a solo album “Talking to the flowers” before joining Wizzard. Sorry not much help.

There's really great film of Roy and Rick performing 'Forever' on TOTP in 1973. They'd already appeared as 'Wizzard' and dressed down to sing 'Forever'. That film prompted me to do a cover of that song and that performance prompted me to ask this question. It's only an impression but he always struck me as someone who had both feet planted firmly on the ground. I think by the end of Wizzard it was literally him and Roy.

Isn't that the clip where Roy hasn't got his makeup on? I vaguely remember it..

I know that Rick is married to Dianne Lee of Peters and Lee fame and is now a member of the Rockin' Berries. He also worked together with Mike Sheridan to write songs including 'Lightning Never Strikes Twice', the b-side to 'Brontosaurus'.
Or there's this version if you prefer it -
This is one of my favourite Mike/Rick songs -

Two very different versions of the same song queenofthehours. I particularly liked 'Sometimes i Wonder'. I think Rick left Wizzard to manage 'Peters and Lee'. I've just read on WIKI that Lennie Peters was an uncle to Charlie Watts of the 'Stones'.

I think I read somewhere that Rick wasn't involved with the early ELO songs because it was planned not to use a bass guitar.
Maybe they were going to use a Double Bass for some songs but given their well documented troubles finding suitable string players for the Violin and Cello, they never found a suitable Double Bass player and reverted to a bass guitar?

That's very interesting and would explain why our good friend Richard Tandy did bass in the early days.
