Really? Tastes differ, I suppose. Beyond The Dream *** 1/2 ROB *** ELO Part Two **** 1/2 Moment Of Truth *** No Rewind ***** (3) TW Volume One ***** Armchair Theatre ***** (2) TW Vol 3 **** Flashback ***** Zoom ***** Mr Blue Sky **** Long Wave **** 1/2 (***** if the outtakes known from the promo sampler were included) Alone In The Universe ***** (1) From Out Of Nowhere **** 1/2 Afterglow is just a nice boxset, but there are no new tracks and Jeff wasn't that much involved Confusion? :lol I thought it was a ranking! How would you rate these albums then? Yeah, my list was chronological, but I'll play along Beyond The Dream 3/5 - A couple of excellent tunes and solid album overall. Armchair Theatre 5/5 - I love this one and wish Jeff would revisit this production style. Electric Light Orchestra Part II 3.5/5 - Honest Men and Thousand Eyes are as good as anything Jeff's done since 1986 IMO. Too many fillers though to warrant a higher rating. Roll Over Beethoven - I'm not going to rate this one since most of the songs were on Beyond The Dream. Dirty Old Town is a fun track though. Moment Of Truth 3/5 - Five or so very good songs, but clocking in at 60 minutes, could use a bit condensing. Flashback 4/5 - A missed opportunity not to release any singles out of this. Love Changes All and Helpless are top-drawer stuff. Zoom 4.5/5 - Liked it when it was new(ish), but have grown to love it during the past few years. No Rewind 5/5 - The only "Part 2" album that has two excellent song writers on it. Not a single filler track on it IMO. Long Wave 3/5 - I really like Beyond The Sea and At Last. I hope they release the promo sampler tracks at some point. Mr Blue Sky 2/5 - I like Point Of No Return and remakes of Ma-Ma-Ma Belle, Showdown and 10538. The rest I don't need. Alone In The Universe 3.5/5 - The songwriting is very good, but there's something lacking compared to Zoom. From Out Of Nowhere 2.5/5 - I love Help Yourself and like a few others, but overall a step down from AITU. A honorable mention goes to The B.C. Collection by Tandy Morgan Smith. Western Life is a big favourite of mine. The Wilburys Vols 1 and 3 are both 5-star albums, but I don't think they belong on this list.

Include the part 2 albums? LOL I don't want to turn this into a "Jeff = ELO debate", but this is how I see the timeline post 1986. Beyond The Dream Armchair Theatre Afterglow Electric Light Orchestra Part II Roll Over Beethoven Moment Of Truth Flashback Zoom No Rewind Long Wave Mr Blue Sky Alone In The Universe From Out Of Nowhere You can also throw in the Wilburys, live albums and Tandy Morgan releases if you like. Part 2 an abomination at worst and a tribute band at best. There is no debate IMO.

ELOFORMERMEMBERSPART2 etc.....had some good songs scattered among some of their albums, but yea it mostly came across as a tribute band with far less talented songwriters. Having said that, I think the No Rewind album was the best thing they ever did, and almost sounded like a different band.

I think the No Rewind album was the best thing they ever did, and almost sounded like a different band. Especially the song "Jewel & Johnny" is absolutely excellent imo. The strings on this track sound just like "Out Of The Blue", thanks to Louis Clark. I have no idea why Jeff Lynne is so against incorporating real string sections in his recordings since BOP, maybe for just one song. They are not overblown, they can be the icing on the cake.

Since you can't edit a Tweet, it was deleted without retweeting, but on Facebook Sony did. The video still has 10538 Overture 50th Anniversary as its title though with label as Evil Woman's 1975 B-side, 10538 Overture live at Long Beach! They actually used the original like it should be...

Recording sessions for 10538 began on July 12th 1970 and continued through to June 1971, but it wasn't released as a single until June 23rd a year later, and even its parent album wasn't released until December 3rd 1971. What exact anniversary is this post celebrating, or is it just more social media padding to disguise that actual (JL)ELO50 content has been massively delayed? Looking at the responses, even Jeff's staunchest supporters are starting to feel more than a little scorched by the general lack of substance compared to how past milestones had been commemorated, and I can't blame them one bit!

I've noticed on the Facebook side of things that Jeff Lynne's ELO hasn't posted anything since May 25, 2021 while Sony's official Electric Light Orchestra page has taken over and done every post since then!

The label's "Evil Woman"'s 1975 B-side, "10538 Overture" live at Long Beach, but it's the 1971 studio version, making today its 49th Street Massacre Anniversary.

There's been more than a bit of goalpost moving over the years. Afterglow was promoted as a 20th anniversary retrospective in 1990, and Flashback served as a replacement ten years later, only to be reissued in 2010 with all mention of previously unreleased tracks removed in time for ELO's 40th anniversary. Then, as of 2012, the remake of 10538 Overture (along with its parent album, Mr. Blue Sky) served as the new 40th anniversary commemorative release, and since that, it looks as if Jeff's team can't decide if they should promote the 50th anniversary as this year or wait until 2022, with the upcoming reissues ignoring the first two ELO albums so they can instead mark the 50th anniversary of when Roy left. In other words, the target is to retroactively apply the JLELO name to everything since July 1972. Let's see how well that one goes down...

And anyway, such anniversaries are commercial opportunities at the end of the day so are hardly fixed in statute. Speaking of anniversaries, I'm about to approach my 45th anniversary as a committed ELO fan so maybe I've become a little hardened to the uncertainties of if/what/when anything new might emerge from Jeff's stable. I certainly wish that Jeff's team would do a lot more to engage with his fanbase, but it also strikes me that most of the negativity arises from the non-arrival of what others have rumoured/speculated about rather than anything that was actually promised.
