I have seen on the news about the abnormal cold weather and deep snow in the USA, has this affected anyone? If so keep warm and safe.

H W, Thanks for being so thoughtful. The outrageous amount of snow is to the east of us (Ohio) but we are getting the biting cold. I think it's around 19 degrees but feels like 8 out. I really feel for those people who got slammed with snow. You just want to pack your bags and run-a-way. It's too early for this! This might be a hint of what is to come. Quite the experience last winter! It came to the point where we had no place to throw the snow. Piles over nine feet + in our yard. 16 degrees was the average. Lots of -degree temps and the wind chill would go below -35. It should warm up into the forties this weekend. This weather is taunting us!

I want to make clear that the east coast got hit just as hard as we did last year.

Not a lot of snow-maybe 2 inches-but lots of blowing, cold, and icy roads.

You Americans always do things hugely bigger than the rest of us, what a shock that must have been for the poor souls suddenly under 5 feet of snow.
Puts our annual UK moaning about the snow coming over our boots into perspective.

My wife sees snow the deeper the better as a dream! She wishes for it every year! Its on top of her Santa wish list! She loves the idea of "tunnelling" out our front door into "Igloo" land! She really is a spacer....but I gotta love her!

My Grandfather who is 87! said he hadn't experienced that kinda cold since '47!!!!

You've all seen the scene in Cool Hand Luke - he's made to shovel dirt from one of the Boss's hole to the other, and so on? I think of this every time when shoveling. We've already shoved twice in the last few weeks! I'm out! I have packed up my bags and am gone! I'll write when I get work!

Keep warm and enjoy! It's below freezing here in Ohio.

I don't envy you the snow at all, Buttler. But we've just had a really warm autumn as well so I bet we'll be in for it too. Glad you have snow as you enjoy it, but I'm not a big fan. It's OK when it comes and goes quickly, but not when it freezes solid and hangs around for days or weeks on end. As a person who can slip over on nothing at all this is not my natural environment, let it rain I say! And you can have all our Welsh share too

Well I'm a bit out of sync, being in the middle of an Australian summer, but folk hit hard with snow & ice have my sympathy. I loathe the snow, having grown up where we had winter snow & having to walk to the school bus across snow covered paddocks & sit with icy feet on a slow old school bus...
