Have just been reading a Genesis thread of the Steve Hoffman forum. Full of comments, agreements, disagreements, frustrations etc about prices for the upcoming tour, set lists, previous band members, which version of the band was the best, who had the most creative input, who was/wasn't a "proper" band member & drum sound to name but a few!
Sound familiar ? :-)

Is it as civil as it is on here though?

We're in that era though aren't we? There are very few top artists (in terms of being a live 'draw') that still have their more-or-less original line up. Off the top of my head I can only think of U2 and until recently, sadly, Rush.
Consequently there are raging forum-style debates aplenty covering not just ELO and Genesis but the likes of: Pink Floyd, Yes, Queen, The Beach Boys, Supertramp, Styx, Fleetwood Mac, Status Quo, etc, etc....

The seat I had for Jeff at Wembley in 2017 was around £100. Same seat for the Eagles this August, £396!! The Genesis ticket prices are very high too - I don't feel so bad now about the £125 I've paid for Jeff at the O2 in October.

I paid through the nose for nosebleeds for the Eagles, but the San Francisco show was sold out within a week and I was slow on the draw.

I have a simple philosophy when it comes to ticket prices. Since I am a capitalist I think they should have the right to charge whatever they want for a ticket to their show, but just because you can does not mean you should. If you are an old rock star whose family's next ten generations will be financially secure because of the fans who have paid money to go to your concerts and buy your albums, I think it is a slap to those same fans faces if a good (not even great) seat cannot be found for less then $200. Obvoiusly I am not talking secondary market. Again, I am a capitalist, but when shows for the Rolling Stones at the New Orleans Jazz Fest this year were going for twice what they go for in any other year then you have to wonder how much Mick and the boys give a crap about there fans. It does beg the question, when is enough truly enough.

Jeff doesn't go on a major tour for around 35 years then BOOM! how many tours in the last 5 years or so whilst playing almost the same set every time? not good in my book....

not many artists of a similar age not doing greatest hits tours...
he is essentially touring his 1 Million selling record all over the world...well apart from confusion and hold on tight

well a few of those aren't on AOTW album and let's face Diary of Horace Wimp would be a set killer... leave it where it is a quirky record... he has done Strange Magic instead of CGIOOMH on the 2016 tour...

I went to see the “ELO experience” in Southport a few years ago and they played TDOHW and it went down really well with the audience as did Hold on tight. I’ve been to see ELO a few times since 2016 with the set list basically the same each time. I think Jeff has to add these plus I’m alive and 2 to 3 tracks from FOON to mix it up. Although he can’t leave out many of the classic hits as that’s what the average ELO fan wants to hear. I’m pretty sure he will get it right.

Do you mean 'set killer' as in the highlight of the set or the opposite? For me it would be an absolute show stopper and I reckon it would go down a storm....

I've seen them a couple of times too and TDOHW was done brilliantly complete with Lego video!

In the ZOO TV Tour in the early nineties the first six(ish) songs played by U2 in gigs were from their latest LP/album/whatever Achtung Baby. It was a measure of how confident the lads were in those songs. It is an exceptional collection of songs. I'd love it if the first few tracks played in the Autumn tour were from FOON. Maybe it's me, but I think they're all strong enough. Feel free to disagree
