Slightly O/T but similar to what happened to another favourite group, Supertramp. When co-lead singer and songwriter Roger Hodgson left in 1983 there was apparently a gentleman's agreement between him and Rick Davies that the band would not perform Hodgsons songs and instead would become a vehicle for Davies' material only. This lasted for one tour in 1986 (which I saw at the NEC) and the abscence of Hodgson and his songs was keenly felt especially as he had written and sang all of their hits and best known material ( I and probably most Supertramp fans was always a bigger fan of Hodgson' music than Davies' more bluesy/jazz stuff). After that, promoters made it clear they wouldn't book the band unless they put at least a few of Hodgson's songs back in the set and Davies hired a soundalike for Hodgson. This started a 25 year feud between Hodgson and Davies which still lingers on today. Hodgson did attempt a reconcilliation about ten years ago but Davies did a "Jeff Lynne" and didnt want to know even though he was mostly in the wrong!
I've said this many times before but life really is too short for all this type of childish BS between grown men who used to be good friends. Time is fast running out and soon it will be too late to do anything but regret the missed opportunities and silly spitefulness.

Agree with you about missed opportunities, shame more bands weren’t like U2 stay together and tour together.

In 1983 on the Famous Last Words tour at Earls Court, which was Hodgson's last one before leaving. Have seen Roger Hodgson solo and with his band several times (which are always great and like a Supertramp gig , because as I said, Hodgson's music was Supertramp to me.)

There is that possibility of course , but as we know Bev and Kelly have both tried to reach out to Jeff without any luck. I still think Bev would love another big gig with the band.

Your very lucky, I had the chance to see FH solo in London a few years ago but sadly the date didn’t suit. Bought Breakfast In America and then worked my way backwards!!! Great band but like you say needs the voice of FH.

Bev did say he would like to do it again but understood it wasn't likely to happen.

Among musicians "respect" is very important. After listening to Jeff fawn over his "heroes" for the past 30+ years, I think that Jeff does not respect the other guys in the original ELO anymore (if he ever did). With the exception of RT, of course. But even RT has been replaced by technology until his recent health concerns. So I don't think Jeff's respect for Tandy's keyboard skills is THAT great.
And it is clear that KG really grew as a frontman for ELO Part II and The Orchestra in the years after his departure from ELO. In this respect he was Jeff's equal, which is not great of a standard as Jeff is a pretty boring frontman. And that's why Bev did much of the PR for the original ELO (and Part II).

I didn't dig through every comment here, so excuse me if this was mentioned, but reading the Bug Club liner notes for their remaster of BOP, I ran across the following bit of info..
Bevan and Lynne had not spoken directly since 1988, until 2021 when Bevan wished Lynne a happy birthday, and Lynne thanked him for the well wishes.
Does anyone know anything about this? I'm assuming they spoke in person, from the way it was worded.
