Oh look, you even get a mini OOTB and mini Bev Bevan book too! I wonder if Bev's people and Jeff's people had to talk in order for that to be included in the package.

Info on the doll, Discovery site: www.elodiscovery.com/Jeff-Lynne-Electric-Light-Orchestra-News-05-06-07-08-2010.htmlA very rare item was on sale on ebay. It's a box containing a Jeff Lynne doll with some replicas of the "Out Of The Blue" album, the Bev Bevan's book "The ELO Story" and a plectrum with a reproduction of a Jeff Lynne autograph. The seller bought it from a big ELO fan who sold off his collection. He told him there was only 2 or 3 of them and they were all slightly different. One of these dolls is listed on the website fan Rockaria (picture on the right). According to it, it's a prototype manufactured in America in 1998.

Jesus Christ.......if this is officially sanctioned (which I’m assuming it must be) you have to ask just how low are the marketers prepared to stoop to make money out of the fandom. I don't understand why you see a negative thing in this. What I see is a voluntary interaction: someone wants to sell, someone wants to buy, win-win situation, everyone is happy. If you don't like the product, you just stay out of the interaction and keep your money, but why downgrade people who are willing to fabricate this doll and people who are willing to buy it?

with some replicas of the "Out Of The Blue" album, the Bev Bevan's book "The ELO Story" and a plectrum with a reproduction of a Jeff Lynne autograph. Why bother buying replicas when you’ve got the real thing... Apologies to the artist, but I have to agree it doesn’t look terribly much like Jeff. And maybe it’s just the angle/lighting but to me his hair looks less like a ‘fro and more like a mullet...

Because it looks nothing like Jeff? We can agree that the looks of the doll can definitely be improved, but I don't think he was complaining about that.

I'm not complaining either, just bemused as to why this was brought out in '98 when Jeff wasn't exactly flavour of the month! maybe in the late 70's or in the last 3 years but 1998?

I have to agree that it doesn't look much like Jeff... 'fro, shades, and beard do not a Jeff Lynne make, obviously. It's a curiosity indeed, especially given the release time of 1998. I had assumed it was a collectable from the late 70's/early 80's. Unless I've misread, it also seems the type of thing that might cause Jeff some embarrassment? Very puzzling.

Well, from the horses mouth, I think it looks tatty, I think it bears little resemblance to Jeff Lynne and by doing so it makes a mockery of and cheapens the brand name. If people are prepared to part with their hard earned for it then that's their decision and nothing to do with me but I'd not buy it myself.

At the very least,it should have been modelled in the late 70s style with satin in abundance...

Aha, I see... given that your first message said " you have to ask just how low are the marketers prepared to stoop to make money out of the fandom" (and nothing about the aspect of the doll) I thought your complaints were about marketers stooping low and making money out of the fandom, but now I see they were about the aspect of the doll all along. My bad, my reading comprehension needs some improvement.

This doll is a prototype. Did they show it to Jeff's management and who thought you are kidding, and told them to go away?
