This thread is for all things surrounding the concept of the album Time. What is the story? How do the songs tie in?
My question I’ve always had is how does Hold on Tight fit into the concept?
Another depressing idea is that the main character could find out when Julie died, since she would be long dead by 2095.

HoT doesn't fit.... JL realised he needed a hit. The Bouncer should have been the first single and last song on Time I reckon

That has been my bugbear with this album, HOT just does not fit in with the concept. I accept that it needed a hit to promote it (and boy,was it a hit...) but going from almost total synth to an all out rock and roll blast doesn't sit well with me even if the lyrics kinda fit the storyline...

Interesting!
I think HOT fits perfectly. A depressing picture has been painted up to HOT. Aw, but wait....this message from another Time could be changed. In fact, you are NOT a 21st Century Man. Wake up!!

Wake up!! I do agree that the album is a downer lyrically and it needed a rock number at the end with an uplifting message. I used to hate HoT...I’m more in the “it’s pretty good” camp now. On another note, what is everyone’s favorite Time moment? Not song, but moment on the album?

On another note, what is everyone’s favorite Time moment? Not song, but moment on the album? The first verse of Ticket to the Moon.

I might be in the minority, but I think Hold on Tight does fit on Time. It works lyrically, and there are honestly so many different song styles on the album that I don't think it seems out of place at all. Time is a true masterpiece! On another note, what is everyone’s favorite Time moment? Not song, but moment on the album? Mine would have to be the bridge/middle eight on The Way Life's Meant to Be. It's brilliant, probably my favorite bridge in the ELO canon.

If I can count bonus tracks, it’s the second part of the second chorus: No big machine or April showers No submarines, no plastic flowers Just echoes in the ivory towers When time stood still On the album proper, it’s gotta be the 21st Century Man refrain in Epilogue, where the chorus sings “maaaaaaaaaaaan”. I’m a sucker for callbacks to previous songs, and that part sounds so damn good.

The D7 chord on Rain Is Falling right before the chorus. How does Jeff think of these things?

I'm tempted to say the start middle and end of Julie Don't Live Here. A completely beautiful song...the best bonus track I've ever come across imho. Apart from that, the third verse of Rain is Falling, just after the chorus...still gives me goosebumps

IMO every live show should have kicked off with it.

Another depressing idea is that the main character could find out when Julie died, since she would be long dead by 2095. It was Brian Paone's novel Yours Truly, 2095 published in 2015, that inspired me to become a rock fiction writer. Brian takes the Time album and the bonus tracks from singles and turns it into a coherent story. Brian is also a professional editor, and edited my two books, Midnight on the Water--a novelization of the Eldorado album--and Five Legends, Five Guitars--an account of the recording of the first Traveling Wilburys album that blends fact and fiction.
Brian uses the chapter titled "Hold on Tight" to build to the climax of the book, a role suited to its tempo and urgency. I won't give away the plot details he uses to tie the story together, but I will tell you the book is chock full of "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" ELO references.
