but lets not forget the tricks done by record companies to get a number one album. iirc this isnt a new trick, but some 80'sbands took it to a new level. iron maiden in particular. if you have a bunch of diehard fans who just must collect everything released, then you release the same album in several formats at the same time, each sale counts to the charts, so, as in this case, you release the album as an mp3 download, but you also release it as a cd, and then as a black vinyl record, and then as a blue vinyl record, and again as a gold vinyl record, and also as a picture disk. a fan who must have all variants will buy the lot and thus contribute 5 sales or more to the chart position. but there are a limited number of obsessive fans and they all tend to buy as soon as the album is out, so from out of nowhere (sic), it shoots right in at number one, and then after a couple of weeks it drops off the top of the charts, before plumetting out of the top 50 within weeks. the era of pink floyds dark side of the moon or meatloafs bat out of hell hanging round in the charts for literally years are now long since gone. when iron maiden perfected this, they would release singles with 4 or five coloured vinyls and another four or more different picture covers, same single, but different variants, and their diehard fans lapped them up, shooting stuff up the charts from nowhere.

Horacewimp: We are all good thanks, just wishing I could go on a foreign holiday, it’s just not worth the risk with Covid and the possibility of a 14 day quarantine, we may do some short breaks in the U.K.
