Mr Blue Sky is undeniably one of the happiest songs ever written, I don't care how many times I've heard it on the radio (though maybe I'm biased cos I've never heard it on the radio... only ever DBMD, the rare occurrence of Evil Woman or Strange Magic...). Totally agree with So Fine and Summer and Lightning too. I'd like to nominate Sweet Is the Night. MBS is never played on the radio multiple times a day? Wow! I'm moving to the US,sounds like your radio is better...

Some excellent nominations already, of which maybe MBS is the only one just about being happy (Sweet is the Night starts off a bit glumly then cheers up)
This one never fails to lift my spirits and as a bonus the performance is introduced by the brilliant Eartha Kitt

ok Helmut83 - how many chords in this one? wouldn't say it's happier than MBS, but it always bring a smile to my face and I swear it has nothing to do with the girl dancing There you are, the 3 major chords again. Great example orioles70, I love that song and I find it very happy too. I'll go further and say I do find it happier than MBS. And I've had the privilege of having seen it played live by Rick Derringer (the singer on the video), with Ringo's All Starr Band, in a formation which also included Edgar Winter, Wally Palmar and Greg Bisonette, among others. Amazing experience. The girl with light clothes wasn't there dancing though... oh, well, she would have been well into her 60s, if not 70s.

I think "Jungle" is another great mood booster, and it also contains some nonsense lyrics, which the article states can be a component of some of the happiest tunes. Good call, "Jungle" might well be ELO's happiest song and I find it uplifting too. 5 chords in this case, but hey, that's simple enough by Jeff's standards. Lyrics don't do much for me. Some songs have happy lyrics but if the music doesn't convey happiness it just doesn't work for me; and the opposite goes for some happy songs that have sad lyrics, I'd consider them happy anyway.

I find 'All Over the World' or 'Every Little Thing' happier than 'MBS'.
'MBS' is a very happy song and I wish you could bottle the feeling you get when you hear the opening notes, however, for me this only seems to work when I hear it unexpectedly. I hardly ever choose to listen to 'MBS' myself.
Outside of ELO, my go-to happy song is probably this -

Ah, good choice, queenofthehours . Remember this from when I was little. The single made it into Older Brother's collection, and Second Brother and I jumped around to it many a time when he wasn't home.

Along with one or two others on here, it's got to be 'So Fine' for me.
