"I love Richard, he's me oldest pal in the group" ("and the only one whom I haven't completely fallen apart with").

It's pretty disconcerting to see Richard having to use what looks to be a breathing tube, but at least he's out and about looking happy.

It's pretty disconcerting to see Richard having to use what looks to be a breathing tube, but at least he's out and about looking happy. I haven't seen Richard in person, but I believe that might be a tracheoesophageal voice prosthesis, an implanted device that allows post-laryngectomy patients to speak.
Anyone else know anything about it?

"Luiz", with "z"? Who's that, David Luiz maybe? Nah, I love Lucho, I think too much of a circus was made of that incident. While it's certainly a weird way of attacking someone, it's also little harmful. We see almost every weekend kicks that could injure an opposing player severely or even end his professional career and we don't have a lynch mob crying out to burn it's author at the stake. It got all out of proportion, as Chiellini himself said. Still, it's good material for jokes.

As for Richard, while we would all love to see him climbing the Matterhorn and descending on snowboard, let's not forget he's already a man of a certain age, so seeing him get the help of those devices shouldn't be seen as something terrible or out of place (particularly when we know he's recently suffered health issues) and certainly isn't the worst-case scenario. Just think that some of his old bandmates are not here to use breathing tubes any longer.

I was reading up on these last night but I’m far from an expert. They do a device which has a valve allowing air over the vocal cords so speech can be made, I’m guessing this is what Richard has had fitted.
