Just played it again (B side only) and it stands the test of time well I think. I'm Alive gets us going and tbh it's my least favourite of the 5,The Fall next ( I thought originally that it WAS about the fall as Jeff does sing about 'Autumn rain') not a bad song but to me just a filler. Don't Walk Away is a forgotten masterpiece in my book, soaring strings and a powerful vocal from Jeff. AOTW is as its always been, brilliant, catchy and great to sing and air drum to (doesn't everyone?) Finally, the title track and Olivia does a great job with this. OK the movie was 'meh' but the music saves it big time....

Just reading that the song Xanadu was recorded in 1979 when the string section were still effectively employed, so were Mel, Hughie and Mik on it? Almost all of the 5 songs on the album feature strings, some more than others so were the other 4 songs recorded at the same time?

Had a listen myself today, good to hear it again. Have to say I like them all. When I first bought the album didn’t like the Fall but it really grew on me. Also dug out my vinyl copy and had a look inside, had forgotten about the 8 Xanadu post cards that came with the album. I remember going to see the film but can’t remember much about it. A real trip down memory lane today. Just thinking timeblue when your air drumming, you have the real drum sticks to hit those imaginary drums

It shows and mentions Kelly, Jeff, Bev and Richard and also says strings by Louis Clark. No mention of the others, shame....

I was at the premiere. My Dad was an executive at the animation studio that did the segment for Don't Walk A Way.
My Dad surprised me with the Demo of Don't Walk away, way before it was released. Not a bad childhood

Sadly no. I wish. Not from ELO. I did get to sit in on a mixing session with Jerry Goldsmith though...related to another movie.

I'm amazed how many say they never played the A side! There's some really good songs by on there, like the The Tubes/ONJ mash-up and ONJ's lovely 1940s style duet with Gene Kelly.

For me, the record had the two sides - the ELO side and the ONJ side. Neither was "A" or "B". I agree, the ONJ side is good too. I love all of those songs. I think that they compliment the other side well. One track I played over and over was Dancin'... Uh oh... there's another missing G

I’m going to give the ONJ side a listen, it’s only taken me 40 years. I will report back with my thoughts.....

I’ve got the picture disc of the ONJ song Magic from the film, I found it in the bargain bin at Woolworths.
It’s not a bad tune.
According to Wikipedia “ John Lennon named "Magic" and "All Over the World" as two recent songs he liked in a Newsweek interview in September 1980, shortly before his death”
