ELO's drummer has been brought to our attention a number of times recently. By coincidence, I thought to myself listening to Across The Border, that our Mr Bevan is a pretty decent drummer. Thinking about my favourite ELO instrumental, that's definitely confirmed. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that ArnoldLayne's description of the drumming in Hello My Old Friend applies to Fire On High as well.
Bev doesn't hold back on that, does he?

A rival?
Absolutely not!
Even so, credit where credit is due - Bev's one heck of a fine drummer.

I've never been the biggest fan of Jeffs production on Xanadu. It was a bit 'poppy' for my tastes. Some bits I really like and other bits less so. But I've always loved Bevs drumming and i consider it one of the highlights of the whole Xanadu project. Whereas the overall sound has a very light touch, Bevs drumming is nice and heavy and has lots of variety.

Bev was a typical Slingerland artist. I guess he played Slingerland Sound King 14"x6.5". This snare produced the big and unparalleled sound which characterized the whole ELO songs. Speaking of ELO, everyone recalls that snare sound.
