The snare has been maybe the biggest reproach they have done to Jeff's production work, and I agree. And PowWow, what about the basslines of the disco songs from "Discovery"? And in some other non-disco songs like "Confusion", the bass is particularly audible. Then again, it wasn't Jeff who played it.

But still, Kelly Groucutt was buried in the mix of synths, guitars and that ever prevalent snare sound!

Not in "Confusion". Just hear the thing again and pay attention to the bass.

I was going to say Last Train to London, the bass is pretty out and proud in that

Jeff's bass isn't really to the forefront of his songs which may not be a bad thing as, along with his guitar hooks, his music is mostly about being subtle and understated. However, there is some beautiful bass-work on 'When Time Stood Still' which contributes nicely to the mood of the song. Even this, though, requires a bit of concentration to hear.

Another song where Kelly's on fire. The verses would be totally different if the bass was just playing an E note.

Just because I heard these a few minutes ago: Ticked To The Moon, All Over The World. I'll have to play some of his '70's.

Guys, GUYS! You're hurting my ego ;( We ain't even started yet! But seriously....I don't feel that bass is that important to Jeff either. Personally I think that in a lot of cases the more "grooving" bass lines came from the bass players, not Jeff. I wonder who wrote the bass line in Xanadu. It pretty much carries the song.

The bass is great in 'Xanadu', tl77 is right it does carry the song. I never really noticed that before but it's typical Jeff-bass: if you don't notice what he's doing then he's doing his job right. Bass that is noticeable is noticeable for a reason, such as in 'Last Train to London', and serves a purpose.
