I keep forgetting to put the poll in the right sub. Sorry, Horacewimp! Ok so Your Song dominated round six, and plows forward in the contest. Round seven pits the lighter than air pop song with deceptively dark lyrics, Superstar by the Carpenters up against a quintessential 80's pop ballad, True by Spandau Ballet. Remember to vote in the poll or your vote won't count.

No problem Chippa, maybe it’s best to leave the current poll in the main area and I’ll move it to the sub board once it’s finished?

Superstar all the way for me, it would beat all the other songs too if I were in charge

I've gone for Superstar as well.

No hesitation here. "Superstar!" I've never really liked "True."

No contest.. premiership versus non-league in terms of writing and performance.... to be clear Spandau Ballet were always in the lower league

True
lol me too. I rationally know that Superstar is the better song and that True is just a bland Roxy Music rip off but when it came out it was so much cooler than the other horrible 80s crap and it's always been one of my favorites of that dark decade. True for me. For old time's sake.

'Superstar' for me.
There was a time when I'd have no hesitation in choosing 'True'. But since heard Roddy Frame mention in an interview that he once played 'Back on Board' backstage to a Kemp, I find that my enjoyment of the Spandau track has dimmed due to the even slight similarities -

Although I quite like the Carpenters, "Superstar" is not much of my liking; but I still find it better than "True". That "ah, ah, ah ah, hai" gets me on my nerves.

Have in mind we have only had 7 rounds so far, which means only 14 out of the 32 songs which are competing have been revealed, while 18 are yet to be discovered. I know there isn't much of a chance that Muse will appear in a softies contest, but who knows? Maybe a favourite of yours is one of the contestants and at a certain point -provided both songs qualify- you end up voting against "Superstar".

Hmm, possible but not probable I reckon.
Mind you, it's scarily easy to completely forget songs that once you couldn't stop playing. One of the curses of growing older I suppose. So it's entirely possible that there's something still to come up that will blow Superstar out of the water, bring it on!

I've been humming, singing Superstar these past days. Can't get it out of me head.
I looked up the writer. Leon Russell with Bonnie Bramlett (of Delany and Bramlett). I thought maybe Paul Williams.
Original title, "Groupie (Superstar)".
Richard changed a lyric,
And I can hardly wait To sleep with you again
And I can hardly wait To be with you again
