This is my favourite era of Genesis and all the albums are great, but I could listen to Duke all day, especially the 1st 4 tracks and last 2.

I can't vote. Genesis in one of those bands I have to get much more into before I'm in conditions to vote.

No albums. If I were to buy, it would be a greatest hit. I'm with JLN, I'm more of a Gabriel fan. And, like Helmut83, can't vote!

I'm in the "can't vote" bunch too, sorry. I did go and see them on the Duke tour, and I know all the obvious songs, but the albums are a mystery to me. I suppose Genesis are one of those bands I always mean to get into "one day" You should post one of their albums on CD of the Week, see what feedback you get

Good effort Pow! Ye know man if you put up a poll of what alcohol would be downed first "half bottle of ameretto or a bottle of forgotten Malibu from '86" OR "which former Elo starlet Rosie Vela or Cheerene would you be first to kick" OR "one smack of a claw hammer in the temple each for One Direction, Justin Bieber, TAKE SKAT, BOYZONE" and the voting board would go on fire!!!!

..well when are you going to post those polls then, JLN?
I'm itching to vote in the R.Vela/Chereene one, several times with different temporary usernames, for a start.

I picked the self-titled "Genesis" album.
I think "Abacab" and the self-titled album represent their prime.
For me personally, on the self-titled album, the two "Home By the Sea" songs, "Taking It All Too Hard", and "Just a Job to Do", are as vintage as it gets. Also the song "That's All" represents one of the few Collins-sung light FM songs that is not intolerable after a few listens, the piano and unique melody add a really nice touch to that one.
To me, with "Invisible Touch" they started becoming annoying ("Tonight Tonight Tonight", "Land of Confusion"), way too syruppy (like "In Too Deep"). Also, the title track for all its hooks, seemed way too contrived as an easy single for me. Also always felt about "Land of Confusion", for such a dramatic song, does it have to be so negative, etc. Just for some reason never liked the album much. I remember one or two songs on side 2 having some redeeming value when I would play it, but would seem like too little too late for me.
"We Can't Dance", is more stripped-down but too much overkill, drama, etc. for my tastes. I do have to admit a few pretty good ones near the end, but seemed like they were purposely going outside of their standard formula and even they knew they had to do that to save face. The title track has to be the most throwaway nonsense gimmicky song I have ever heard. "Hey let's have Phil scream and call it a single."
In other words, I completely agreed with Phil Collins that it was time for them to hang it up, at that point. I always admired that, and how Sting ended The Police right before they would have started to become a caricature of themselves.
A cool, interesting poll; thanks for putting it up!
Jim

I'm surprised Invisible Touch is in 1st place! o.o
Not bad for a piece of dated pop-schlock...

I went with the self-titled 1983 album. A solid collection of great songs, like "That's All", "Illegal Alien", the haunting "Mama", and "Just a Job To Do".
