Unconfirmed reports of his passing.
If true. Such a sad day. What a character he was.

Mel G has shared this news on Facebook - he says Hugh passed away last night after a long illness. Mr K has posted his condolences as well.
Hugh really was a one-off in the world of rock. So very sad that he's gone at only 65.
Rock on in heaven, Hugh.

I'm absolutely gutted - Hugh really was the most extravagant member of the classic ELO line-up, and it's amazing that he went on to be just as groundbreaking in the field of computer software programming.

Oh no, how terribly sad. Sixty-five is far too young. I'm so sorry to hear this.

R.I.P. Hugh, you were a real character, and will always be remembered as a member of the "classic" ELO lineup.

I read something earlier this past summer about him being ill, but didn't know the details. He really was a great showman and a gifted musician. RIP.

This is really sad news and a big shock as I had no idea he was ill at all. The classic image of ELO, with its famously static front man, always features Hugh leading the string section as they inhabit the whole stage at top speed and still playing furiously.
The world will be a less colourful place now we've lost him, RIP Hughie
