The weird thing is, he is now like you- PETRIFIED of the tiniest spider. When he's home from university (he is now 22) he won't sleep in his room if he senses that there is a spider there, and he will sleep in the living room even though there may be spiders lurking there too!

I've never tested the theory, but I imagine a tarantuala is not so scary because it's so furry it's almost like a little mammal. Almost. Or probably not at all I salute your bravery Timeblue, and that of your son in his younger life. And I salute his sensible aversion now he's matured like we have...

Arg, you and your son were far braver than I would ever be, Timeblue ! eloneenWe haven't done bugfest, but every time we visit a reptile show, Mr. Bluebird wants to bring home a tarantula or a scorpion. Now I am pretty reasonable as far as pets go, but given my aversion to spiders, that's where I draw the line. I said "it's me or the spider," that usually puts an end to the conversation.

I think it's because tarantulas don't scurry around like smaller spiders do,if they did there would have been no way I'd have done that...
