just saw an ad for "Bohemian Rhapsody" the movie - no idea if it will be any good but I'm guessing a lot of ELO fans are also fans of Queen and will watch it if the reviews are favorable
who thinks they will go see this one? and what is your favorite rock movie?
here's the trailer the actor from Mr. Robot plays the Freddie Mercury role

I enjoy Queen's music. My husband and I might go to see the film at some point. I think I might actually like it, and I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to movies!

Mr. Bluebird and I were at the theater yesterday to see another movie, and we saw previews for this one. It looks pretty good! We both enjoy Queen's music, so we'll probably see it at some point. I haven't seen too many rock movies, with the exception of "A Hard Day's Night," "Help," and "Magical Mystery Tour." I enjoyed all of those, but did find Magical Mystery Tour a little odd in some bits, haha!

this might be hard to find, but if you're a fan of '60s rock - it's a fun rock-documentary I remember "Hang on Sloopy" being a favorite song when I was young. Well before I discovered ELO.

Rock & Roll films... That'll Be The Day and its sequel Stardust, come to mind. On Saturday I went to see the latest version of A Star Is Born. Essentially, not a rock film, but Bradley and the band play some decent music. And then there's Lady Gaga... The main reason I went - her voice. I loved it. There was a decent crowd in that particular screen - and there was a ripple of applause from all present as the credits started to roll. That doesn't happen often. Bohemian Rhapsody... I might be tempted...

I only recently saw Backbeat, the film about the Beatles' early years in Hamburg - it's on YouTube. Can recommend a watch:
Although some might say, the best film ever made about the Beatles is this British mockumentary,The Rutles. Written by and starring Eric Idle of Monty Python, with music by the brilliant Neil Innes. If you haven't seen this, you're in for a treat.

don't know if I'll see the Queen movie. I'd like to but I'm a bit funny about actors playing real people, especially people with as much personality as Freddie. Also, I've seen a few Queen documentaries over the years and I don't feel I'd learn anything new - the film makers might have twisted a few things to make them more dramatic.
I love the Rutles and A Hard Day's Night. That'll be the Day/Stardust I haven't seen yet but any movie which features Billy Fury, Keith Moon and Dave Edmunds is the best! Nowhere Boy is quite good and Abba the movie is fun. 24 Hour Party People springs to mind as well.

vlogdanceI love The Rutles one, it's hilarious. I will have to check out Backbeat when I have time. I'm familiar with the soundtrack, but haven't actually seen the film! Thanks for the video link.

I'll watch the Queen film if it shows on the TV but I doubt I'd pay to see it. The guy playing Freddie has the early look nailed but not so much the later versions - generally it looks pretty entertaining though and it will be interesting to see how the true story is perhaps tweaked. My favourite rock film is probably Rock & Roll High School featuring The Ramones, great music and a good laugh Slade in Flame was good too, but much grittier - can't find a trailer though

I LOVE Queen and adore Freddie Mercury and Brain May and also love Elton John so I won't be seeing either of these new movies.
I'm not a big fan of dramatized biographical movies about rock musicians. I think they'll ruin the mystique for me.
I prefer documentaries with lots of old footage.

I prefer documentaries with lots of old footage. Did you enjoy this one, elophile ? (I did!) I did enjoy it but not as much as I thought I would. I loved the beatles so much as a kid but now even though I still love them and think they're adorable i'm just kind of over them. So, yes I did enjoy it but but not as much as I thought I would. Now, if Jeff put out the equivalent...
