I used to get up every morning at 5am, wrap myself in a blanket and lie in the dark listening to their albums in strict rotation. To achieve this I had to go to bed at about 9pm the night before - my parents thought I was completely bonkers. Beautiful silver disc.
Bonkers maybe but I did this too, though not with ELO. Every morning I'd get up early just to put on my Joy Division LP before school. A good record psyches you up for the hard day ahead.

I salute you! Did we grow out of doing that or just develop better ways to cope with Real Life as we became older?

I definitely haven't grown out of it. These days I find, when short of time, squeezing in the trio of 'Showdown', 'Daybreaker' and 'Ma-Ma-Ma Belle' from OTTD of a morning is good armour for a hard day ahead.

Funny that you say it that way. I see OTTD as a "square", with it's 4 sides being "Ma-ma-ma belle", "Showdown", "Oh, no, not Susan!" and "Bluebird is dead". It would go to five if we included the wonderful "Everyone's born to die".
