Horacewimp, what's the general feeling in England towards the national team and it's perspectives of success? Do people have high hopes on this team, or is there scepticism and the general feeling that this England team will disappoint like many others have done in the past?

The media hasn't hyped up our hopes too much so it depends who you talk to. Oldies like me remember the past and so aren't very optimistic the younger generation seem to think we can win the cup lol

Horace ... not going over the top? After the 6-1 win some of the newspapers were claiming the world cup is coming home. Radio 5 has been non stop how fantastic/special the England team and Manager are BBC TV called one 20 minute period of play the best football in the world cup so far.... God help us if they win anymore ... mind you it will push off the mess of government/brexit of the front papers for a while I guess.

Man, football can be a cruel game. Poor Japan, they played a great game and the way they lost it must hurt like hell.
The upside to this (in my opinion) is that Brazil's next opponent -Belgium- didn't get too tired by playing overtime.
Against Mexico, Brazil recovered it's qualifiers form and they are looking very scary right now. If you asked me, I'd say 70% chance of Brazil being champions, and if they get past Belgium I'd say the chance goes up to 90%. If they play like in the group stages they could lose, but playing like today I don't see anyone stopping them to be honest.

Oldies like me remember the past and so aren't very optimistic the younger generation seem to think we can win the cup Well, it's always good to see that the optimism can be renewed in spite of past fails. Personally, I think England has a very fair chance of making the final, particularly after seeing how shaky Croatia looked yesterday against Denmark. England wouldn't have to face any scary team up to the final: probably just Colombia, Sweden or Switzerland, and Croatia. The path to a WC final doesn't come any cheaper than that. dillwyn : the press opverhyping the team on account of a meaningless 6-1 against very weak opposition is the same that happens here in Argentina every World Cup. You have played two round stage games against weak teams and suddenly you are the biggest candidates to win the WC, as if Brazil, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, France, etc... didn't exist. Buttler : the Neymar rolling video is great! He's a hell of a player, but I dislike him because of that reason. He put up his little theatre play against Mexico too.

There's something wrong in the Belgium formation. Even if Guardiola is turning De Bruyne in a central/center midfielder he HAS to play on the right (or left). The Belgium team it's too much unbalanced, Witsel and Carrasco are useless players since they went in China (only for money). Coach Martinez should have called Radja Nainggolan, and Mousa Dembélé should have played with him. So, this is my ideal team (4-2-3-1):
Courtois Alderweireld Kompany Vertonghen Meunier
Nainggolan Dembélé
Mertens Hazard De Bruyne
Lukaku

Isn't Nainggolan injured? I thought the reason he wasn't playing is that. Also, I have my doubts with Meunier as a left back. In all of the other I agree.

I see. Not a player I would have left out of the squad, he's better than Witsel and Fellaini in my opinion.
