For those who haven't seen it yet, here is an episode of the British TV series, "Can't Cook, Won't Cook" from the late '90s that featured Kelly Groucutt and Roy Wood:
Credit and thanks to Ted Blight, who uploaded the video onto YouTube as one file.

I used to watch this programme too, back in the days before every other TV show was a cooking show. I definitely don't remember this episode - I must have been at school that day. There's something extremely bizarre about seeing two important members of ELO, who never played in the band at the same time, together on a cooking show.

There's something extremely bizarre about seeing two important members of ELO, who never played in the band at the same time, together on a cooking show. It could be that ELO Part II and Roy's band from this era played a gig or two around the time of the episode's filming. If memory serves, Wood opened for and made surprise appearances with ELO Part II at least a couple of times throughout the years... but never with a chef's hat on, unfortunately.

I also immediately thought "they never played together in ELO". In any case, it seems clear that they knew each other from the opportunities you mention, Rob, but when they play "Livin' thing" I can't help but think "one had left the band several years before this song came out, and the other one ended up in a trial against it's author".
I wonder where Mr. Blight takes this gems from...

And Rob, despite the fact that you are one of the most active members of the forum, I think it's the first time I ever see you opening a new thread!

And Rob, despite the fact that you are one of the most active members of the forum, I think it's the first time I ever see you opening a new thread! That's because you hadn't even started teething on ELO when I was at my most prolific and pesky. Yes, I heard the roaring of the crowd as I hit the "Create Thread" button as well... although no balloons were imagined. In regards to Mr. Blight: he might have been the first and only person so far to upload this episode online. If he was, he originally uploaded it five or more years ago and in several parts (before the changing of time limits). At least that's how I remember it.

That's because you hadn't even started teething on ELO when I was at my most prolific and pesky. That's right. What I remember is that the young DiscoverMe had started a thread called "What are you?" in which you asked people about their gender, age, race, birthplace, etc... It came to have several pages of answers and it was very interesting to read, so that one at least could have been considered a success. You know, another thing I recall is that during the first times when I joined the forum (and I'm talking about a good while, like the first 6 months or maybe even more) I thought you were a man in his 50s or nearing his 60s. Don't get me wrong, it may be due to the richness and wideness of your vocabulary, or the subtleness of your sense of humour, I don't know, but I was surprised (and a bit let down let down I must confess ) when I came to know that you were almost just a kid. And talking about forum customs, you never seem to hit the "like" button either...

Thank you, Herr Helmut. You should have seen me when I was five... I was so brilliant even then that most people guessed I was six. If it wasn't for the cape and the candy smeared all over my face, they probably would have thought I was seven. ... and as I've said many times before: you don't exactly come across as the most mentally deficient person, yourself. And talking about forum customs, you never seem to hit the "like" button either... My apologies. It's either inattentiveness or technical incompetence that is to blame... so don't take the lack of "likes" personally. Did you enjoy the episode?

Did you enjoy the episode? I'm going to do everything at my reach to refute what you said about me not coming accross as a mentally deficient person, starting on now: which episode, and of what, are you talking about? And I wasn't expecting you to give "likes" to my posts, but you should take note that it is a very useful tool if you want to improve your image before the authorities of the forum. Just give them "like" whenever they make a relatively smart post or a joke, or even when they try to make any of those and and fail (particularly when they fail), and you will slowly start to gain their liking and confidence. It's an ant's work, but you will congratulate yourself for doing it should you ever need an obscure favour from the powerful.

The episode of "Can't Cook, Won't Cook" that starred Groucutt and Wood, and is featured in the first post of this thread. This seems like good advice, and I'll take it... would you consider unomussette and BSJ to be powerful authorities?

This seems like good advice, and I'll take it... would you consider unomussette and BSJ to be powerful authorities? Hhhmmm... of their own homes, I have no doubts, but as far as this forum goes, nah, I wouldn't waste my time in liking their posts. They can't kick you out of the forum nor ban your comments for the time being, so it would be beating a dead horse. When they act together and in tandem they can be a bit dangerous though. Well, the only "episode" I could think about was that, but I wasn't sure if you call each edition of a cooking program an "episode", so from there my doubts. In any case, I quite enjoyed it, thanks. I had some difficulties in understanding some things they said because my ear isn't very sharp for English and the quality of the audio was quite poor, but it was great watching these guys in a very different activity than the one we are used to seeing them in.

I hate to tell you this, but someone has been hanging around here pretending to be you and liking the posts of myself and the always awesome BSJ!!!! Lord knows which other posts with your ID on have been put up by this dreadful charlatan I hope Rob doesn't see these bogus likes and start thinking that in your post that I've quoted here you were making it up whilst secretly loving us. If he gets antsy with you just send him to our lair, we'll put him straight alright about this terrible doppelganger who's stealing your glory. I really, truly thought it was you - the likes are so convincing. Do you know, they even produced a completely brilliant artistic representation of our combined majesty, we've been complimenting them on it and everything. I feel such a fool. BSJ doesn't, she's actually even now plotting an extremely horrible and painful revenge. As you so astutely pointed out, when we work in tandem we are at least dangerous and at worst pants-soilingly terrifying. I pity this poor person when we get hold of them. At least we haven't wasted the presents we were going to give them (thinking it was you) for being such a great mate. We can stockpile the party gear and the tasty rare ELO merch and the phone numbers of all of the band including the guys nobody recognised in that other thread. Phew! What a stroke of luck I read these truthful posts from the real you.
