elophile, by "full Jeff" I meant pretty much what BSJ said. I read an article on Jeff's production one time that described him as a "maximalist". How many effects, instruments, key changes, moods, ... could he put into a song. Keep tweaking and perfecting for maximum effect. 10358 had like 15 overdubs. If 2 cellos and a violin were good, how about a 40 piece orchestra? If the string players wanted to go home at 5pm, then work to midnight layering in the synths. Some people hate all that "production" but Jeff has a special talent for it. In fact, it's what made ELO special - IMO. Weird Al is no Jeff, but he can be fun. Maybe adding the bells and whistles to his act will be good. Have fun if you go!

orioles70 I understand what you meant but when I read the description from Weird Al's site it almost could have been describing Jeff's comeback tour... which made me wonder if the concept of the big, overblown tour itself was a parody of Jeff's latest tour.

Dave, who "troops" as Star Wars characters, mainly a Storm Trooper, has been on stage with Weird Al twice. During Al's Star Wars song he has Stormtroopers and a Darth dancing in the back. I can't stand him. Whom, Dave? OK, just wait until I tell him, I'm sure he has no idea you go around stabbing him in the back...

Old Town Road was a hit on Billboard's country chart, but got removed for not being "country enough". Solution - add a little bit of Billy Ray Cyrus. Not sure what was up with that. Perhaps some country music people thought they were being made fun of?

orioles70 My son and I have had ongoing conversations about this. Sounds like some people are very narrow-minded about who *ahem* can create country music.

I suppose someone could make a "cultural appropriation" argument. But that's just a fancy term for narrow minded. As long as something is done with a positive intent, then it should be welcome to find it's place. And that song certainly caught on.
People don't have to listen and don't have to like it. But if the song is popular on country format stations - then clearly it is country enough. I'm sure Charley Pride ran into a lot of resistance back in the '60s. By the time the '70s came around, it was no big deal to have a black country singer.

Do you remember ... oh, the way it used to be? this Dion song is from 1989 (year of the Wilbury's) and produced by Dave Edmunds whom Jeff had worked with several years earlier - I think Jeff's influence shows up on this song

I recently discovered the band McFly when I stumbled across their song "Do Ya". I decided to check it out to see if it was a cover, turns out it's not--and unlike a song by a certain Mr. Colon, this one is justified in its choice of title, so I can't get upset with them Formed in 2003, McFly is probably old news to everyone across the pond as they were apparently extremely successful in the UK, but I'd never heard of them as they didn't really seem to make it over to America (hmm... sounds like another British band I know... from Birmingham, say, late 60's? ...I don't quite get it... ). So far I've liked all their songs that I've explored, unusual for me since as I've made known, I'm perfectly content to live under a (classic) rock when it comes to music taste. Supposedly McFly will be regrouping and releasing a new album this year... there may yet be some hope for popular modern music!
