Amazing what coincidences one finds on the interweb....
Alanis The "former members" thing is what makes me cringe. Alanis is very talented and still very beautiful IMO.

Jeff sings a few seconds of 'Hey Jude' in 'Shangria' from ANWR, does that cause copyright issues ? Doesn't he just mention "The Beatles on Hey Jude?"

Speaking of samples, I was listening to Dark Side of the Moon last night, and I swear I heard a(n) homage to "10538 Overture" in the guitar part to "Brain Damage." It would make sense because they are both about mentally unstable dudes. Actually both are homages to the guitar licks in "Dear Prudence."

A homage is not plagiarism. I think of it as a respectful nod from one artist to another. Thanks for the informative link.

I'd be more preoccupied with Ma-Ma-Ma Belle, Across the Border, The Way Life's Meant to Be and 21st Century Man. Also, apparently, Hold On Tight.

'rain rain go away' also features prominently on Supertramp's 'Its Raining Again' After reading this thread again i realize I'm wrong with this, Supertramp sang 'Its Raining It's Pouring'.…

I think one of the biggest cases of music plagiarism is Queen’s intro to “Under Pressure” being used in “Ice Ice Baby”. As far as I know however, there was never a lawsuit on this one. So the story goes, Freddie Mercury heard the beginning of the latter on the radio one morning and thought it was “Under Pressure” at first. Freddie Mercury being Freddie Mercury did nothing except remark something to the extent of “imitation is the highest form of flattery”. I don’t remember exactly where I read this however so might not be 100% factually accurate. But I thought that was interesting ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But I thought that was interesting ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ From Rolling Stone: "The case was settled out of court, costing Ice an undisclosed sum and earning him a not-insignificant amount of public scorn. Bowie and members of Queen all received songwriting credits on the track."

Regarding 'Hold On Tight' I think Jeff should be saying 'What are they saying about my song ma?

I never really thought that The Way Life’s Meant to Be sounded like Save the Last Dance for Me, which I’ve actually got stuck in my head right now and has been basically all day (the Dion version however, I prefer that one to the original but that’s just me, I’m a huge Dion fan). Anyhow the songs have a similar vibe, but I don’t see any copying of anything.
What is interesting copying is when artists copy their own stuff and reuse it, for example: The intros of Chuck Berry’s songs Johnny B Goode & Roll Over Beethoven sound pretty much identical.
Runaround Sue is basically Lovers Who Wander (both Dion).
And lastly, there’s a track I believe on Armchair Theater (but I’m blanking on the name right now) which sounds suspiciously like Send It (from BOP) at the beginning.
