The first time I heard IWICBCE, was probably about 15 years ago. Nice song, but I get why people in the UK think it's overplayed. Kinda the same way I feel about that Mariah Carey abomination All I Want For Christmas Is You, which is played on a seemingly endless loop at every place I shop.

The Move made an impression on up and coming rockers. Tom Petty loved Do Ya. Parthenon (aka Rick) was listening to Move records as a teen in Greece.
but it seems like the average radio listener was unaware of Roy, Jeff and Bev until ELO came along

Nope. Never heard of "I wish It........" until here. Lucky you , it’s played to death in the U.K. along with Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade. Same here, I hadn't heard of Roy's song (or his other work) until I joined here, and I only knew the Slade song because R.E.M. covered it for one of their fanclub Christmas package singles back in 2007. It's interesting that our Christmas song rotation here in the states is so different from over there. Can we please trade a few songs? I am totally sick of hearing the Mariah Carey one. smileys-whistling-823718

Oh, I'm sorry they overplay her Christmas song there as well. We also get Wham!'s Last Christmas on repeat here. I used to work in a shop in a mall, and they had the same approximately 10 Christmas songs on a loop from the week before Thanksgiving, until the middle of January. It included "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas," and a few other really grating tunes. It was enough to make you crazy. At the end of the day, we used to fight over who got to clean up in the back so we didn't have to hear the music.

At least Wham!’s Last Christmas is one that I don’t mind listening to on repeat. I have no issue with anyone who’s sick of it, but I recently found out that, for some reason, the rest of my generation seems to have something against Wham!, particularly Last Christmas, and it seems to go beyond being simply because it’s overplayed—they’re perfectly happy to listen to a cover of Last Christmas by Ariana Grande or whoever else on repeat (even though Wham!’s is obviously the best version). My response? Make a playlist that is 50% Wham’s Last Christmas, 50% other rock/pop Christmas songs like Thank God it’s Christmas, Wonderful Christmastime, Christmas All Over Again, etc. I threw IWICBCED on there too despite having never heard it before, just cos I’d seen it mentioned here on the forum in the past. I ended up really liking it; thank goodness it’s not overplayed here, so I don’t have to be sick of it!

BIuebird - your post brought back a memory from long ago when the kids were in early grade school. My son had heard of Chuck e Cheese from another kid at school and insisted we go there. For those not familiar, they have an animatronic band (think robot muppets) that plays the same 1 or 2 songs over and over again - a "cheesey" silly song with an upbeat tempo and very simple lyrics. The poor teen who worked there was mopping up and as he worked he mouthed the words with the saddest look on his face I've ever seen. Sheer torture listening to that song for hours every shift. Dick Cheney could have authorized the interrogators at Abu Ghraib to use 24 hour chuck e cheese music instead of water-boarding and electric shock. this Christmas - be nice to the retail workers that have to put up with bad music loops

Grroosss Yeah, the Wham! one doesn't bother me that much, although I prefer some of their other songs to that one. One of my friends absolutely HATES it with a passion, though! I am so out of the loop that I didn't even know she covered it, but I don't doubt that the original is better. That's not difficult to believe. orioles70 Oh man, I feel for that poor kid! That's probably worse than Christmas music too, because it's not seasonal. Yes, always be kind to retail workers! They put up with a lot of nonsense year round for (usually) low wages, but this time of year is the absolute worst!

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day is number 10 on the UK singles chart announced today. This is the first time Roy Wood has appeared in the top 10 since Are You Ready To Rock by Wizzard got to number 8 in 1975.

deejay actually announced that it is National Mustard Day but then he didn't follow up with a song from Roy Wood's album, Mustard taking care of that oversight
