Bah, I couldn't care less about the royal family. I think it's ridiculous to have that theater running at this point in history. People who are born with blue blood and therefore are bound to a life of luxury? Really? Talk about equality then... It's a vestige of the Middle Ages that I don't understand how the UK keeps on maintaining. I wasn't going to say so for fear of offending but I couldn't agree with you more Helmut83

Horacewimp : hah! Hard to argue with that, and don't forget the Asian tourists! I reckon those must leave a few coins, if only for their amount. I've been told that because of all the touristic activity it generates the British royal family sustains itself economically and leaves earnings, not sure if that's true, so well, at least that makes it better on the money side. The thing is, from a philosophical point of view, I find it impossible to justify that in an occidental country at this point in history some people are born with better rights than others. The principle is similar to that of the Apartheid; in very different proportions, of course, but the principle is the same. But then again, if the ones who are born without privileged rights are genuinely happy about that situation, then I guess that's enough to legitimate the system, and as far as I found out a big majority of Brits -even Scots!- seem to be OK with it. I would be royally pissed -pun intended-, but I'm not a Brit nor I was born under a similar regime to know what it's like from the inside. elophile : don't worry, our British friends don't take offense, right, my British friends? Right... my British... ... friends???

It's a vestige of the Middle Ages that I don't understand how the UK keeps on maintaining. It's only so we can sell cheap tourist tat when the 'mercians come over on holiday, don't tell them though. They do get their own back when we visit Disneyland to see their Princesses's. My mother-law gave us a few Princess Diana plates. You know, the numbered ones. God knows why. Just to see, I put them on Craig's list for $5.00 last year. No one bit. Took 'em to Good Will. The lady rolled her eyes. "Not more of these!" Sorry. I don't know what she paid, but I know they were not cheap.
(She also gave us a plate of Frank Sinatra. There was a chip in it that played him singing a few lines of 'My Way'. I gave it to a friend as a retirement gift. He loved it!)

Now if the plate had had a chip in it, and Franky had been singing "Candle In The Wind".......
