Kelly Groucutt had a penchant for eating cheese and pickle sandwiches while recording, it has been stated that on the Eldorado album you can hear the orchestra packing up during the songs, this is not true the real noise is from Kelly grabbing another sandwich from his tupperware lunch box. That fact is false! As everyone knows, Kelly Groucutt didn't participate in the recording of Eldorado. The legendary sound of the orchestra packing (or of Kelly grabbing a sandwich) is particularly noticeable in the "A new world record" recordings. Please, people, be careful with the sources because we can have a fact or two a bit wrong here and there. Now this makes me wonder if there could be some other inexactitudes in the facts posted above... You've now blown my cover Helmut, I'm sure everyone believed all my facts up until then, they were very plausible

You've now blown my cover Helmut, I'm sure everyone believed all my facts up until then, they were very plausible Man, you have to keep an eye on those details! If you start with those anachronisms you are going to end up saying that Richie Valens played the solo in Birmingham Blues, and that's were people will realize. In any case, people, all of the other facts Horace posted were completely true, accurate and reliable.

Now this makes me wonder if there could be some other inexactitudes in the facts posted above... Eh? Inexactitudes? Surely not, especially here where we are all so hugely knowledgeable. For example, it's completely true that tucked away at the back of the stage, Bev was able to run a telephone chat line business using a concealed headset. People would phone him up who got their kicks being shouted at by a man with a very deep voice, over a really loud background noise. I do miss it now he's retired. Pardon?

In the 1970's ELO had a beard growing competition, the winner was allowed to go clean shaven, the rest of the band had to keep a beard until the allotted date.
The winner of the competition was Bev Bevan, there has been much speculation about the date the other members must keep sporting a full growth beard, my sources tell me it is 26th February 2017.
What about Richard Tandy I hear you ask, well he was not part of the agreement, while the other band members were agreeing terms of the competition Richard was busy in a local Toys r Us playing on the new Stylophone organs.

This one is true, but it's unfortunate that I remember so few circumstances surrounding the fact. I'm sure I heard it in a interview with one of the band members (I think it was Melvyn Gale). Maybe someone has heard it and can add something:
ELO band members were invited to a reception where they were going to have dinner. The organizers commissioned some blanket manufacurer to make an ELO blanket to cover the table where they were going to eat. Apparently the conversation must have been oral, because the result was the table being covered in a yellow blanket.

The table was cold and shivering before the arrival of the blanket. Another fascinating ELO fact: Bev Bevan's year of birth has been listed as 1944, 1945 and 1946. After re-reading his book, one can confidently conclude that it is either 1944 or 1945.

In the 1970's, the touring band had a member who used to add to the sound but was not seen named Jake Commander. Whilst this is a brilliant name, a little known fact is that he actually a commander of the Galactic Empire, commanding Stormtroopers in Star Wars

During downtimes, when Jeff was writing all the songs and not letting anyone else join in, other band members would supplement their income by taking on anonymous theatrical roles. For instance, Hugh McDowell was in fact Barney the Dinosaur, Kelly G was the Swedish Chef and Mik joined Melvyn Gale as Daisy the Pantomime Cow in umpteen Christmas pantomimes.
Oh yes they did....

Yay! I've made Junior Member.
Mack, the engineer, is not Scottish. And neither was Scotty from Star Trek - he was Canadian

Melvyn Gayle had a particular type of wind named after him, which we have all heard of. Unfortunately, the Hugh McDowell cloud system never caught on

Have any of you heard the sound of the orchestra packing in the 'Eldorado Finale'? I've listened and listened but don't hear it.

I've never heard it either, and sadly I am far too lazy to furtle through all of that website to find it. I think I prefer it as a myth anyway
