If you want to get frustrated, check out comments on Youtube. The uneducated have been fed so much misinformation through the years many think Ringo was a Wilbury based on seeing him in Tom's video for "I Won't Back Down". The fact Jeff was the one most responsible for the finished product seems lost on everyone. They all contributed as writers, all played guitars and they all sang. Jeff played most of the other instruments and was the main producer, no disrespect to George intended.

If you want to get frustrated, check out comments on Youtube. It is frustrating for sure! I reply to them sometimes... My favorite was this person commented "Greatness always seems to come in fours..." on a Wilburys video. I replied "Not in this case though..."

www.rollingstone.com/music/news/jeff-lynnes-elo-readies-concert-film-wembley-or-bust-w507497 lol speaking of annoying comments... from the comments section of this article. Thank god some ELO fans came to the rescue. v2787 • 3 days ago Jeff Lynne seems to be a pleasant, somewhat musically talented guy who did some good production work. He was also incredibly lucky to be part of the Wilburys. (He's like the Ringo of the group--just lucky to be there.) ELO was a a novel idea in their day, and a few of their songs were nice ear candy, but that group wasn't exactly the Beatles, now was it? But hey, if you're an ELO fan, enjoy it. I'm sure I once read a YouTube comment for 'I Won't Back Down' where the writer didn't even have a clue who George was. It makes me feel better knowing Jeff is equally as unknown as George sometimes - it's better than Jeff always being the unknown one.
There was once a time when I didn't know who Jeff was. No, that's a lie. I CHOSE not to know who he was. He wasn't my number one Wilbury to name in years gone by but I definitely knew who he was. In fact once I eventually managed to remember all the Wilbury's names I prided myself on even remembering the curly haired, sunglasses-wearing member's name.

There was once a time when I didn't know who Jeff was. No, that's a lie. Hard to believe it now but there was a time when I didn't know who Jeff was either... so I suppose uninformed music fans who post silly comments on youtube CAN be excused. But if you were, let's say, a "journalist" writing an article about the Wilburys wouldn't you do some research? For jackasses like the guy who wrote this little gem: goodmenproject.com/arts/george-harrison-bob-dylan-roy-orbison-tom-petty-watch-grin-cmtt/ there is no excuse!

I wonder if the (so-called) journalists who chose to ignore Jeff are the same ones who when referring to a person from, say, Rochdale write that the person is from Manchester. I hate any kind of journalism where a fact is modified because the reality is not simple enough. "Hey, lets list the Wilburys but no one (ie me) knows who this Jeff guy is so lets ignore him."
Who would not know who Jeff is for goodness sake? The man sold out Wembley Stadium! I don't want to be tasteless but he's the only one who is still alive out of the band other than Bob and the only member who actively goes around talking about the band! Who do the journalists think he is? The Wilburys' manager??!

As Tom once said, there couldn't have been a Travelling Wilbury's without Jeff Lynne.

"Hey, lets list the Wilburys but no one (ie me) knows who this Jeff guy is so lets ignore him." Totally. You summed it up in an excellent way. It's ignorance spreading ignorance.

But hey, if you're an ELO fan, enjoy it. I've noticed there are a few anti-ELO or anti-Jeff Lynne fans around on YouTube. I remember one who went round all Wilburys videos talking shit about Jeff, saying he is a fame-hungry muppet that had no business there other than being with his idols. And you know what? I don't hate those trolls as much, because when you read a few more of their comments you realize they did their homework and took the work to find out whom Jeff Lynne was (in the case of the one who calls Jeff a muppet, he's been around so many ELO and Wilbury videos that he has to know quite a lot about Jeff). Then they chose to hate on Jeff Lynne for some reason, be it that they don't like his music, his face or whatever, but at least that kind of trolls has a fair idea of whom they are hating on. In those guys I see people who don't share my musical tastes (and are a bit of lunatics, expressing it in an overly aggressive way). The kind of idiot I hate more than those trolls is the one that is barely aware of the existence of ELO, knows not songs at all or in the best of cases no more than 2 or 3 and chooses to criticize all the same as if they knew what they are talking about, just because it takes less time than to actually find out how much or little talented this Jeff Lynne guy is. That's the attitude I hate. Asess yourself on what you are actually going to write, learn a bit about an artist before you criticize him. In those guys I see ignorants who are not willing to come out of their ignorance but still they place themselves in the position of someone who knows, that's why my main hatred is towards them.

I've noticed there are a few anti-ELO or anti-Jeff Lynne fans around on YouTube. I remember one who went round all Wilburys videos talking shit about Jeff, saying he is a fame-hungry muppet. i remember the anti-Jeff-Lynne troll who was going around to all the ELO videos announcing that Jeff was gay and using a lot of really gross language to elaborate wildly and absurdly on that theme. He would always start out "Jeff Lynne is gay. It's a well known fact." It looked to me like he had even created more than one account so he could converse with himself about it. At first his comments upset me "Why does he hate Jeff Lynne so much?" I wondered. Oddly he had a pretty solid knowledge of ELO members, songs, lyrics. After a while I came to the conclusion that he must have been someone who noticed what a rabidly adoring breed ELO fans are and decided it would be a kick to see how utterly upset he could make us. Despite the gross language he used and the underlying, truly vile anti-gay sentiment of his comments I sort of found myself weirdly admiring his audacity and stick-to-it-iveness

I think JL's life would have been much less stressful and maybe more productive if he HAD (been gay and) avoided all the 'relationship-with-women' problems in his life. I'm not blaming the women, and I'm not saying that 'those who walk on the other side of the road' have it easy; I'm just saying JL could have had a simpler private life....
Interestingly, his current 'close friend' seems to be a keeper; I sure hope so 'cause the rough periods in his life (of emotional turmoil at home) have often been unproductive musically....(and it always comes back to his music for me).
Many people speculate what would have happened (musically) if that loony had shot Yoko instead of Lennon.....

Camelia is adorable and seems super sweet and supportive. Since I can't have Jeff I'm glad she does. I would be willing to set up some sort of timeshare with her if he becomes too much to handle
