Apart from my fish, my other passion is coin collecting. Mainly current and old UK coins but I'll collect anything especially when I go abroad,I'll try and get a full set of the local currency. One of my latest acquisitions is a full set of USA state quarters that my 'Mercan friends will no doubt recognize ....

Two interests that go together perfectly, Timeblue. As the old Yorkshire saying goes, "where there's Muk there's brass..."

again took the kids to it...my lads struck a £1 coin before it was released ... it will never be spent they take you into a viewing room, where you watch all these metal disks being fed into hoppers and then turning into cash... the speed is astonishing. well worth a visit...my youngest has been back 3 times...he loves it there so much

yes the boys did theirs back at that time ... it is just they got to pick out the metal coin before it was pressed (and it is done in a special individual machine) and then handed back to you in a paper case...they don't let you get close enough to get fingers trapped:)

Nice collection, Timeblue ! You've snag what I think is the best coin, Ohio's.
The astronauts Neil Armstrong and John Glenn were both born in Ohio, as was Orville and Wilbur Wright, inventor's of the airplane. They tested a first airplane in 1905, here.

Timeblue They made their first successful flight in 1903 at Kitty Hawk because the conditions were better in NC for their tests, but BSJ is correct that they are Ohio boys. Hubby tells me there's an ongoing feud between OH and NC about which state gets the phrase "First in Flight" on state license plates. We've had that slogan longer than any other state has had theirs, for fear that Ohio will pick it up and use it. Here's a link to the Wright Brothers National Memorial in NC, one of our National Parks. www.nps.gov/wrbr/index.htmThis is what our license plates look like. I found this one online. There were also photos of plates from the 1980s online with the same slogan, but I could not save and attach them. Hubby said he remembers the slogan on the plates from at least the late 1970s, having grown up here. Attachment Deleted

So is 'First in Flight' on every plate in NC? There are other options, but that one is the default plate.
