Horace affirms that once while at work he discovered that that paste used to seal plumbing tubes works well for those purposes, and he gets it cheaper. He'd sell a "butt" load of that stuff on here! (Open your wallets Timeblue & Helmut83 ! ) With all the spankings that us two are promised threatened with, you would need gallons of the stuff....

It truly is the countdown to Christmas now, it's the 5th of November!
Happy Bonfire Night all!
I haven't got a Guy Fawkes so here's just a guy - (but we'll keep him off the fire)

Do you Mercans on here know what bonfire night is about? I just read up on it. Interesting - a sort of 17th century anti-terrorism victory celebration!

Timeblue So, do people still make bonfires? Is it an organized celebration in the community or do people just create their own bonfires? I would guess that it would have to be regulated in some way for safety's sake?

Timeblue So, do people still make bonfires? Is it an organized celebration in the community or do people just create their own bonfires? I would guess that it would have to be regulated in some way for safety's sake? These days it is more regulated and the bonfires are staged at organizes events, but in my day (back in the 70's when I was a kid) we had bonfires in our street on a bit of open land near our house as did many others in our area. This would be a communal thing with families in our street, every adult helping to find wood or things to burn and also to make the food such as baked potatoes, hot dogs, mushy peas(yuk) just about anything really. Everyone would bring fireworks and generally it was a great night. Like I said, it wouldn't be allowed now and the community suffers for that.
