Like so many others, I want/need/demand/beg that he releases another album.
But the reality is that he's a only weeks away from 70.
We have to learn to accept that HE has a life too; he (who has given us sooooo much pleasure) has a right to his (jeez Louise what's a polite way of saying) twilight.
I'm sure he loves to be appreciated, but let's be realistic.
Just a thought.
I'd hate to think that I would still be doing the same thing at 70 (although I know I will).

Double posting again... How gormless am I? I actually used the word "Twilight" without any irony.. "Twilight crawling through my windowpane" seems so appropriate to what I was trying to say. BTW WTF is

I recently read an article that said the key to being happy in your golden years is a sense of purpose... now we wouldn't want to rob Jeff of that, would we!

The creativity of songwriters peaks in average when they are in their 20s. Some are good songwriters in their teenage and some keep being creative in their 30s. Exceptionally, a few have written hits and/or good songs in their 40s and even 50s.
But when you are 60something or 70 the well of creativity has typically run dry, as, in my opinion, we could prove with the "Alone in the Universe" album, a work which's songs were predictable, forced and lacking on inspiration, originality (some borrow too much from others the same Jeff Lynne had written previously) and that astounding creativity Jeff Lynne used to have in his good years.
So I'll be honest, after "Alone in the Universe" I'm not waiting eagerly for Jeff Lynne's new material. In fact I think it's time for him to call it a day in terms of musical output and close a brilliant musical career.

I think he'll do one more album, probably a tour, then settle down and just do some occasional producing for other artists.

The other half of the covers albums (both ELO and Jeff Lynne) are still in the can aren't they ... alone in the universe tour live at wembley (as companion to the dvd) must be lined up. if they really wanted to push something B sides/addtional tracks .(like that link was posted the other day).. tour out the blue could be the way to go .... none of that would need new material and will keep us paying out for years that is without all tracks he has in the can love him to do a duo album with mr petty

Haha... elophile , I'm a naturally pessimistic (although realistic, you must give me that) guy, but you are not supposed to share my pessimism. You could well hope Jeff could come up with a great album, or if not, at least a decent one. Heck, maybe you liked "Alone in the Universe" like most fans seem to have done and if he did something else of that sort you'd be happy with it. So smile, elophile, smile!

Think of it this way: the less people that show love for him, the bigger the chance you've got that you get his attention and he corresponds your love back.

They come from my country! But who started with the llamas on the forum. Was it you? Yes, it was me, a bit involuntarily. As you might remember (I told the story with plenty of details and photos here) I made a trip to the UK last year to see Jeff Lynne and I was also going to meet several forum members. I had to take pressies for them, something representative of my country which didn't weigh much (because I had to carry my suitcase all around the UK and Ireland) so I got them small llamas made in wood and bone by the natives of the northern province of Salta in Argentina. That's where the whole llama madness started. If we ever happen to come across personally you'll have your own llama too.
