Sir Paul gets my vote. Sheer quantity of hits, more longevity, writes his own lyrics, and good at multiple instruments.
And for all the classics on Elton John's Greatest Hits, do any match the creativity of say "Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey"? Or "Too Many People", or "Band on the Run"?
For "Band On the Run" probably most people play the whole album through, for the people I've known.
And for the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album, we all hit all of side one, "Grey Seal", and the title track, and then skip over to "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" and then maybe "Harmony". A die-hard fan might play "All the Young Girls Love Alice" on their way to side 4.
If anyone else has a different experience playing those two albums, let me know. Maybe one or two of you grinning thinking "yup, that's how it worked for me, too."
