Okay I couldn't actually find this but I saw where one did it for Bob Dylan. His was "time passes and love fades." So I wonder what Lynne's would be. This may require some deep thought. Or not - for some of us. I know he's always downplayed his lyrics but I thought they got a lot richer on Zoom and beyond.

A bit off-topic, but here goes. @secretmessenger, as soon as I read the computer summary of Dylan's lyrics, my mind went immediately to one of my absolute favorite poems, "Le Pont Mirabeau" written in 1912 by the French poet Guillaume Apollinaire. Here is a link to the poem, with English translations and a link to a recording of Apollinaire reading it. ( I love Apollinaire- but not as much as I love ELO. ) www.writing.upenn.edu/library/Apollinaire_Mirabeau.html If you read French, it is worth a look (and a listen!) Although I'm "just a French teacher," and not a professional translator, I don't like any of these translations into English. I can't remember if I've ever seen one that I really think does justice to the original. I do have great respect for the special art of translating poetry, though. This is an example of how the enjoyment of beautiful poetry in its original language is one of the benefits of foreign language study! Anyway, I'd love to see what the computer comes up with for JL. I'm guessing the words dream, lonely, summer, and night might come up.

I like these! Yeah single words were all I could come up with too. But to combine them we might sum up: "Life's a blue dream on a rainy summer night"
Eloeen I will check out that poem for sure!

About the poem, yes it seems difficult to catch in English. I like the one by Kline: how Hope lives blow by blow. Deep.

Each translation has parts that I find really good, but no one translation works for me. None of them is as beautiful as the original. That's why Apollinaire is the man! I like your sentence for the computer lyric summary for JL. How could we work the word light in? a light blue dream?
