Although it won't go my way I think maybe Chippa should have the casting vote Well, having in mind that you voted for Elvis and Chippa has voted for Bryan Adams, you could always withdraw your vote, which would produce the equivalent result of giving Chippa the casting vote.

I don't mind doing that if Chippa confirms he would back Bryan again. What you you say Chippa?

I know I'm biased, but this is ELVIS we're talking about here! The King! So sad!

The King of what? In my book Chuck Berry was the true and only king of Rock n Roll. Unlike Elvis, he wrote and played his own songs. A guy who doesn't write his songs doesn't deserve the title of "king" IMO, other than maybe "king of the interpreters". Only because people underestimate so much the art of songwriting -which is the art of creating music, no less- Elvis could be nicknamed "king".

I know I'm biased, but this is ELVIS we're talking about here! The King! So sad! I agree with you! Elvis was a fantasic performer & personality. I don't think Madonna writes her own songs but that wasn't brought up as an issue. What about throwing Elvis and Bryan Adams back in the hat and re-matching them with other contestants, Chippa ?

Helmut83, I understand your point about singer-songwriters, but Elvis is not up against Chuck Berry here, and Elvis also just happens to be one of the biggest cultural icons of the 20th century, because of his talent and his impact on society during his time and beyond! I see where you're coming from, but I respectfully disagree. This is just a game, so no biggie! However it turns out, it will be interesting to see who the contenders will be for the big title at the end!

I don't think being a songwriter was part of the criteria set forth for choosing, but we were all certainly free to choose according to our own preferences, and I guess that's what we've done.

Yep, there are a few ways to decide who to vote for - if you don't particularly like either it can be the influence they had on later bands or who you'd prefer to see live if given the choice, for instance. I've used both of those in past polls.

Maybe. But we have a few hundred members and only 12 votes. I don't think it's impossible to ask someone to break the tie.

BSJ has asked a few days ago on the shoutbox and still no one came in and voted. There are hundreds of members but a huge majority of them are interested only in ELO and Jeff Lynne. The ones who are willing to comment (or in this case vote) on other things are very few and it's always the same bunch. Hopefully someone will break the tie tomorrow in spite of this. Otherwise we should organize a penalty kicks shootout.

but Elvis is not up against Chuck Berry here Well, that stands out clear, but you said Elvis was the king for you, so I was saying who was the king for me, independently of the fact that he is not involved in this particular poll. and Elvis also just happens to be one of the biggest cultural icons of the 20th century Salvador Dali is also one of the biggest cultural icons of the 20th Century, isn't he? That doesn't mean he should be up against songwriters. I mean, you could do it -in the same way people discuss if Michael Jordan was bigger than Tiger Woods or viceversa-, but how would you compare? Different arts. Think about it this way: imagine a paintor who never came up with something new but instead limited himself to reproducing paintings that other painters have created. Even if his imitations ended up being better than the originals, would he be held as a hero, an icon or even a genius? I don't think so. More like people would say "what's the point of reproducing what other guys have created?". Well, I don't see why it should be different in music. The songwriter creates, the interpreter reproduces. So I respectfully disagree with your opinions as well, eloneen , but OK, I've made my point and we probably won't agree so I'll just leave it here.

Since it's a tie that nobody seems to wanna break, both artists are put back into the running. Next round....
