I have two cd's by Mike Sheridan & The Nightriders. Roy Wood was a member of this band from 1964 until 1966. Roy left to join Ace Kefford, Carl Wayne & Bev Bevan from (Carl Wayne & The Vikings) and Trevor Burton from (Danny King & The Mayfair Set) to form the Birmingham supergroup The Move. When Roy left the band they were called Mike Sheridan's Lot. Roy was briefly replaced by Johnny Mann, who was in turn replaced by Jeff Lynne, by this time Sheridan had also left and the band were simply called The Nightriders. Jeff Lynne, Dave Pritchard, Roger Spencer and Greg Masters released one more single as The Nightriders, "It's Only the Dog" c/w "Your Friend". Soon after they changed their name to The Idle Race.
The first Idle Race single was a cover version of Roy Wood's "(Here We Go Round) The Lemon Tree". The Move had released "Lemon Tree" as the 'B' side of "Flowers in the Rain", not wanting to be classed as a covers band The Idle Race decided not to release their version of "Lemon Tree" in their home country. The first UK release by The Idle Race was the Jeff Lynne penned single "Imposter's of Life's Magazine" in 1967.
The cd cover pictured below is a collection of singles 'A' & 'B' sides, it also contains Roy Wood's first recorded composition "Make Them Understand". My other Nightriders cd was recorded in 1981 and is called "Rock and Roll Revival", the band perform a version of Roy's composition "Brand New 88".
I got Woody to sign the front cover of my cd when I met him in Holmfirth in Dec 2015, he wrote thanks for a Clan Wood tartan scarf that I gave him to keep the chill out.
Right to left :- Greg Masters, Dave Pritchard, Roger Spencer, Roy Wood, Mike Sheridan.

Horacewimp: We are all good thanks, just wishing I could go on a foreign holiday, it’s just not worth the risk with Covid and the possibility of a 14 day quarantine, we may do some short breaks in the U.K.
