David Bowie won round eight and advances.
Round nine has the well dressed British legend Elton John vs. the Godfather of Grunge, Neil Young.
(remember to vote in the poll or your vote won't count)

Elton John because I'm not that familiar with Neil Young

Elton for me, he's the Queen Mother of British rock (by his own admission) and a proper national treasure despite a bit of a dodgy past. He also has a proper knack for writing a catchy tune and isn't afraid to dress up and make a fool of himself which is a winning combination as far as I'm concerned.

Easy choice for me - Elton John!! I remember all those great, infectiously fun songs from when I was little, before I was really even "into music" --"Crocodile Rock," "Benny and the Jets," etc. I remember the school bus driver putting on the radio for us if we would behave, and most of the kids would sing just about any of EJ's songs when they came on. Just about all of us knew the words! Great times!

Elton. So many great songs.
Remember driving home once, singing nothing but Elton songs all the way down the motorway. Great memory.

I like Neil a lot. Songs like "The Needle and the Damage Done", "Powderfinger", "Rockin in the Free World", and "Heart of Gold" are outright classics. But I like Elton more.
This might be a blowout.

Yeah, Elton for me too. I love Neil Young but Elton John has a sing-along infectiousness that I can't resist. Hold me closer Tony Danza!!

I'll have to go with the current in this one. Neil Young has some good songs (to the ones Chippa mentioned I'd add "Down by the river", "Born in Ontario" and the monster classic "Hey hey, my my"), but he wrote thousands and too many of them are pretty poor IMO. Sir Elton is a great pop songwriter with an innate sense of melody and in my opinion his stuff is, in average, considerably better than Young's.
