I remember that photo in Bev's book of the show in Cleveland in '78 which showed just how massive they were at the time (they were supported by Foreigner, Journey and Trickster, whoever they were! )and Bev describing the show at Anaheim stadium. But that that was then and those huge stadium shows are long gone (and hard to pull off) and an arena tour would make more sense so your not paying hundreds of dollars just to watch a huge video screen. The US fans are owed a tour after all this time but I very much doubt they're there in the same numbers as in 1978? It is interesting how things changed between the world tour of '78 and the tour of 81/82, moving from 70,000 seat stadiums to 10-15,000 indoor arenas, it's a fickle business and so are some fans.(As Jeff discovered in 2001).
Personally he should consider venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado which is an an amazing outdoor venue and holds about 10,000. Far better to play a few dates and fill a smaller venue than have a half-empty stadium.

fourlittlediamonds It's hard to tell how big an arena ELO could fill now in the US, isn't it? Not everyone in attendance is going to be a diehard fan, and so not everyone will be able/willing to pay $100+ for a ticket, AND travel a long distance to see the show. My husband and I went to a Chicago and Doobies concert last weekend within an hour's drive from our home, and we're only casual fans of those two groups. The 20,000 person capacity amphitheater looked almost full to me. What made it attractive for us is that we were able to get decent seats for a great price (about $33 each), and that's possible with medium sized arenas and a nice range of ticket prices. With strong promotion, and maybe if ELO would tour with another group with whom they might share some fans, a US concert tour would have an even greater chance of success. If they choose places that are not too far from several cities, even better! But, as Timeblue said, I'm sure JL's folks are considering all of this, and have better information than we do. We can still give them a nudge, though!

When I saw ELO in 81 tickets were £8.50 (11-12 dollars) and that was a huge amount of money then, especially to a 13 year old on 50p a week pocket money! I suppose Jeff will have to book a few venues and see which way the wind is blowing, so to speak.

It would depend on the band, but I'd rather Jeff not team up with one.

I suppose Jeff will have to book a few venues and see which way the wind is blowing, so to speak. I think I paid about the same amount when saw ELO as a 16 year old for the Time Tour in Baton Rouge in 1981, and a few years before for "The Big Night" in 1978. Our seats were not fantastic at the show last weekend, but they were fine for us. We were on the last row of seats before general admission lawn tickets. We could see the stage (and the big screens, of course) and not many people blocked our view by standing, at least not for long. If we wanted to stand up, we weren't blocking anyone else's view, since folks behind us were much further back on the lawn, so it was perfect for us as casual fans. $33 was a great bargain! I'd definitely pay twice what I paid last weekend to see ELO!! wiggle

We all know that there is a resurgence in Jeffs popularity in the UK hence the sell out shows etc, is it the same in the USA?
