5-4, so far. Voting ends....whenever. Ok, here's the list of the artists left in the competition. I think it's a good mix of styles and era's. Any thoughts on the list? Paul McCartney John Lennon Madonna Elvis Presley Chuck Berry Roy Orbison Prince Phil Collins David Bowie Rod Stewart Peter Gabriel Bob Dylan Neil Diamond Adele Tina Turner Aretha Franklin Michael Jackson Elton John Billy Joel Bruce Springsteen Eric Clapton Bob Seger Paul Simon Van Morrison Linda Ronstadt Lionel Richie Ozzy Osbourne Bryan Adams Marvin Gaye Neil Young Thanks, Chippa !! I really like your list for the most part. Since you asked for our thoughts, here goes: I think Lionel Richie is outclassed by the rest of the group. I'd choose Smoky Robinson, Otis Redding, Little Richard, or Sam Cooke for another good male R&B representation. (How far back do you want to go?) I don't know Ozzy Osbourne's music at all (never been terribly curious, either), so I wouldn't know what to say about him. Maybe a few more female names? Although it is hard to overestimate Madonna's influence as a force in popular music and as a performer, I think Whitney Houston runs circles around her in terms of vocal talent. This is still a great list! And since I didn't come up with the idea or take the time to put together a list of my own, just go on, brother, and do your thing! Thanks again! This will be fun! Maybe I'll replace Ozzy with someone else. And I think you're right about Lionel. Ok, Lionel is out and replaced with Otis Redding.

That's very nice of you to consider my preferences, Chippa , (Such a sweet guy! ) but I'm just one person. Maybe others know/like Ozzy, though? I could check him out. And one more thing. How could I forget? Two words: JAMES BROWN!! Maybe he should be the one to replace Lionel? I promise I won't keep doing this. I'm done making suggestions!

I agree with eloneen about Otis Redding and James Brown... they're both giant talents!! Also Kate Bush, Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitchell. Oh, and Elvis Costello. That's my two cents!

Wow, I'd totally forgotten about James Brown! I'll take Adele out and put James in.
As for your other suggestions....I honestly can't name a Kate Bush solo song. I know the one she did with Peter Gabriel, but that's it. Stevie Nicks? Maybe, but I think she's more closely associated with a band.
I think I'll replace Ozzy with Elvis Costello. Good call.
Ok..here's the new list....(by the way, the poll is tied! Somebody break it!)

Sorry Stevie Wonder fans, I voted for George Harrison.
I don't understand what Elvis and Linda Rondstadt are doing in that list when they didn't even write their own songs (and good for excluding Adele for this very same reason). We are comparing songwriters with singers here.

We are comparing songwriters with singers here. It's not about if they wrote their own songs, or not. It's about your preference for their output as solo artists.
