Remember Battle of the Bands? This is like that, except solo acts. There will be 32 artists, all of whom I would consider major stars. So, let's get going with the first round!
Our opening battle sees two of the most influential artists of all time go at it--George Harrison and Stevie Wonder. Remember, as always, to vote in the poll or your vote won't count!

Hurray, it's been too long since we had a poll, thanks Chippa! Are we voting for how influential they've been, or just for our favourite? My instinctive reaction would be to choose George because I like him best, and being part of the Beatles he would have had a huge influence. But as a solo artist, not so much.

Basically, whoever you like more between the two.

Stevie's body of work is better than George's, which frankly, tended to be pretty weak during the 70's.

Horace created a sub-board for these polls, so all future ones will be posted there.
I voted for George, just barely. I think George's best albums(Cloud Nine, Brainwashed, All Things Must Pass) rank slightly higher than Stevie's best work.

Nice mix. Gonna be hard to choose at times, I'm sure. And they'll be paired in the tournament, totally randomly. Not in the order I listed them.

I really like your list for the most part. Since you asked for our thoughts, here goes: I think Lionel Richie is outclassed by the rest of the group. I'd choose Smoky Robinson, Otis Redding, Little Richard, or Sam Cooke for another good male R&B representation. (How far back do you want to go?) I don't know Ozzy Osbourne's music at all (never been terribly curious, either), so I wouldn't know what to say about him. Maybe a few more female names? Although it is hard to overestimate Madonna's influence as a force in popular music and as a performer, I think Whitney Houston runs circles around her in terms of vocal talent. This is still a great list! And since I didn't come up with the idea or take the time to put together a list of my own, just go on, brother, and do your thing! Thanks again! This will be fun!
