Whenever you good people talk about the band in the present tense,do you refer to them as ELO or Jeff Lynne's ELO? I don't know of anyone who calls them JL ELO, just plain and simple ELO so it begs the question (and it's probably been talked about on here but I can't recall) why exactly did he call it JF ELO when he owns the name anyway?

I just say Jeff. For me its all about Jeff like I know the guy or something. LOL. In all seriousness I think it is because of part 2 and that other guy touring Europe that I won't name playing ELO's stuff that wishes he was Jeff.

I thought it was because the vast majority people who weren't fans knew of ELO as a band and knew some of the songs through radio play but very few knew of Jeff Lynne or that he was the main man behind the group, so when he started to get wider public notice again in the UK back in 2012 / 2013, lots of people were saying who? (until you mentioned ELO that is). This band name neatly ties it all into one
I also like to think he calls it Jeff Lynne's ELO to differentiate it from the 'original' period of ELOs life and because it is really a solo effort now. (I know you can argue the 1983 to 1986 period was JL solo as ELO but he did have Richard and Bev and others play on most songs unlike now).
I always even when first released having Zoom as an ElO album didn't quite work but in my mind it would have worked better as a Jeff Lynne's ELO album
Finally the cynical part of me would say that Jeff can sell more albums and make more money if he has ELO in the name somewhere as it is a more recognisable name than his own name!
Shame he doesn't play songs like 'Every Little Thing' and 'Now You're Gone' from Armchair Theatre live now he tours as Jeff Lynne's ELO!

I absolutely agree with you on everything you said, fireonhigh. Yep!

I'm with fireonhigh too.
I like to think the 'JL'S ELO' moniker was cooked up by the record company rather than Jeff but if it was Jeff I'd guess it was to make known that Jeff has become the "bigger" name through his production work since the band quit and that he'd like to use some of that fame to promote ELO.
I don't particularly like the new name and suspect that only new fans will be using it.

I personally dislike the new name, have never used it and never will...

I agree, it's unwieldy for a start. When I went to the gig last year I spoke about going to see Jeff Lynne and only mentioned ELO if people didn't know who he was. With all those new people in the backing band and only Jeff and Richard from the glory days it really doesn't count as ELO for me.

I was a die hard it's still "ELO", but once Jeff Lynne was attached slowly changed my mind. I have to say "ELO" (without JL) outside the forum.

I have felt guilty because I *hate* the name "Jeff Lynne's ELO" and it's not ELO to me. I would tell people that I was seeing Jeff Lynne as well but I felt like I wasn't being honest to say that but, for me, if your name wasn't Jeff or Richard, and you were on that stage, a big hole could have opened up to swallow you and I would not have noticed! The rest of the band did not matter.

JL can call it "Gwen Dibley's Broken Underwear Band" if he wants - I'll be happy as long as he keeps delivering the goods....

Easy answer, just make up with Bev and ditch the new name....Simples!

On that note,I wonder what Bev is really thinking about this? It's well documented that he loved touring in the days of ELO when Jeff would prefer to sit behind a mixing desk and now that Jeff is playing so many live shows it must leave a sour taste in Bev's mouth.

JL can call it "Gwen Dibley's Broken Underwear Band" if he wants - I'll be happy as long as he keeps delivering the goods.... It's Jeff Lynnes's GDBUB then... Far more memorable that old-fashioned ELO thing. You do realise that I'll have to refer to the band as Gudbub from now on!
