Alright, this subject has come out briefly on another thread so I thought it would be fun to make a specific thread about it.
Tell us about the platonic loves you've had throughout your life, no matter your age back then (you can include cases from when you were as young as 7 years old), and if possible include photos. They can be famous personalities, actors, singers, people you had contact with in real life (these cases should be more fun)... whoever you idealistically fell in love with even when you knew you had no chance with her/him.

When I was about 8, a good 6 years before I saw reason and fell for Damey's proper manly charms, I became totally devoted to David Cassidy Although I was determined to marry him I'm quite glad it didn't happen as he's not aged well

Uno, he looked like a girl in the first photo!
Oh, and as a general rule, don't look up for nowadays photos of your past loves. I'm not sure he hasn't aged well, maybe he has, given the age he has now; but the fact is he has aged. No one comes out unscathed of that.

as far as famous people go, Johnny Marr for sure. not exactly a crush, i just appreciated his talent and his looks didn't hurt anything. is it weird that i chose a guy as my style/fashion icon? probably. i had his haircut for so many years, although it didn't really work with my wavy hair. Attachment Deletedthere's also Jim and William Reid from the Jesus and Mary Chain, because simply, they didn't care. again, tried the haircuts, and this time, mine wasn't curly enough. Attachment Deletedin real life, i had a friend named Zach when i was in my late teens/early twenties, who was the epitome of punk. he didn't even try. that made him even more punk rock to me. he was also a couple years my junior and his light-hearted silliness brought it out of me as well. he could pick up any instrument and play it. thus he became my recording guinea pig. when i'd go to his house he'd show me all his mom's unicorn figurines and talk about how he was born a unicorn. i loved it! we were inseparable friends for so long. and now it's been so long since i've even seen him. best relationship i've ever had, with anyone. i'm so nostalgic!

jiminyjellysolo: how was it that, spending so much time together, you never took that relationship to the next level?

My pre-ELO obsessions in chronological order -- no real-life ones. I can't remember the various real-life dorks I had crushes on. All musicians of course!! Attachment Deleted1) Baby elophile's first musician crush. So cute and non threatening! Attachment Deleted2) Tweeny elophile fell hard for Brian Setzer from the Stray Cats. What a cutie-pie. Baby face but maybe a little bad. Look at that hair! Attachment Deleted3) Teenage elophile's musician boyfriend, David Bowie. As cool as they come. Is it weird that I went third person on this post?

Planned on marrying Paul McCartney. What!? I was 5 or 6 when first setting eyes on him! When Linda came in the picture, I graciously stepped aside. Had a huge crush on a cousin, John Michael, who lived out of town. I would moon over his picture at my Grandmothers. I always was attracted to the older boys, so there were plenty of 'no chances on god's green earth'. The agony I put myself through!

jiminyjellysolo : how was it that, spending so much time together, you never took that relationship to the next level? Well, we did at times, but it was mostly a friends w benefits thing. There was an unspoken understanding. Although we had a few tussin trips (ghetto highs) during which we promised to marry each other. It never happened. One part about him that I liked so much, is that he understood and appreciated me. I don't even understand myself! Let alone appreciate what I am. One of the most beautiful things he or anyone has ever told me, was something to the tune of "you wake up as a brand new person everyday. Always changing, never the same as you were." Probably the most merciful way anyone has described me.

Is it weird that I went third person on this post? I don't think so. It just means that you don't want to take charge for your past crushes. BTW the Stray Cats guy looks like a lemur, with those eyes that seem too big for that face.

Man, Paul McCartney must have been the guy with most girls in the history of mankind. Seriously.

Well, yours doesn't sound that much like a platonic love, jiminyjellysolo; more like a love that could have been but didn't happen.

I was never a fan of Debbie Harry, her turned up nose always seemed a correlation of her arrogant diva attitude and that lowers her sex appeal a lot in my opinion. But wow, I'm totally with you on Kim Wilde...

But wow, I'm totally with you on Kim Wilde... I was front row at the Birmingham Odeon to see Kim Wilde, she wore a T shirt that night and forgot to put a bra on smiley-music025
